Book signing
Greg Barrett, the author of “The Gospel of Father Joe: Revolutions and Revelations in the Slums of Bangkok,” will discuss the book and sign copies at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Rose Parish Hall.
Father Joe Maier grew up in Longview and has spent his entire career living among and serving the poor of Thailand. Barrett, a journalist, met the priest on assignment and decided to observe and chronicle Maier’s life work.

'Street' fest
The World of Sesame Street and Christmas in Cowlitz County 1968 will be celebrated during the Cowlitz County Historical Museum’s annual winter festival from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
Activities will include woodcarvers demonstrating their crafts and storytellers.
Crafts, exhibit boards and video clips in the meeting room will introduce an array of the Sesame Street characters.
For time travel to 1968, the Apollo 8 astronauts and their Christmas Eve broadcast will be featured along with Hot Wheels tracks and the opportunity to make an ornament.
Events are free. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The museum is at 405 Allen St., Kelso.
Holiday wares
Members of the Kelso Garden Club will sell wreaths, swags, centerpieces and decorated Christmas cups from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the McClelland Center, 951 Delaware St., Longview.
Cool jazz
The Northwest Jazz Orchestra will play a swinging “Big Band Christmas” concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Calvary Community Church, 2655 38th Ave, Longview.
Tunes to be featured include “Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer”, “Go Tell it on the Mountain” and a vocal duet “Baby It’s Cold Outside” sung by Jenny Turner and Bud Sonderman.
A $5 donation suggested for adults, $4 for seniors and students 13 and older.
'Rose in Winter'
The Lower Columbia College Concert Choir and Madrigal Choir, both directed by Korina Groff, will perform a concert called “Rose in Winter” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Wollenberg Auditorium in the college’s Rose Center. Admission is free.
Both groups will sing Christmas or Advent-inspired music from a wide range of eras, including a 15th century German carol, a traditional French carol and contemporary works.
Stones tribute
If all this Christmas stuff is getting to be too much, a Rolling Stones tribute band offers an alternative.
Union Jack, a group from Seattle, will provide “Satisfaction” at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Kelso Theatre Pub.
Tickets cost $8 in advance at Your Market Place and Just Music or $10 at the door.
