Dec. 3 Letters to the Editor

Get over it

On Nov. 28, Daniel Stanley wrote of some former Clinton people coming to President-elect Barack Obama’s Cabinet.

Look at it this way. Within Junior Bush’s two Cabinets, one can see people from his father’s Cabinet. This is just the way of politics, get over it.

Also, hypothetically, if Sylvia Schumacher (Nov. 17) or Per Johansen (Nov. 22) had a daughter or daughter-in-law give birth in another country, for whatever reason, I am sure they would want to see that child be a citizen of the United States of America.

This can be done with the Certificate of Birth Abroad of a citizen of the United States of America. The child could be born in any country and still be a U.S. citizen.

Obama is a citizen of the United States of America. Again, get over it.

What’s the value of life?

What kind of barbaric society has this become when a man in Valley Stream, N.Y., has his life taken away in order to save a few dollars? It bothers me deeply that this unfortunate event happened and I feel deeply for his family. I think the words "Black Friday" and "Sale" should be stricken from the English language if these kind of senseless acts are the results thereof.

To get so panic-stricken in order to get a better deal is an outrage. We are supposed to be a civilized society, yet when this happens it doesn’t seem to be of any concern to anyone, as the sale items are the number one concern. I do, however, credit the other Wal-Mart employees who risked their lives to save this man. But the pure greed of shoppers prevented this from happening.

I think everyone involved in this incident should hang their heads in shame and try to imagine what this man’s family is going through due to their animalistic behavior. What kind of holiday season are they going to have knowing that they lost their son, father, brother, etc., because we value the dollar more then life? Is this what this great country is all about? I hope when the people involved see their ill-gotten booty opened at Christmas, they remember that a man gave his life for it.

Unite to end terrorism

With worldwide terrorism running rampant, why don’t the countries of the world unite in opposition and end it all? We could call the organization “The Nations United.”

Being such an altruistic project, they could probably get the U.S. taxpayers to fund most of it.

Not a ‘peaceful’ group

Perhaps Diana Kennerud (Nov. 28) doesn’t know anything about the members of the Westboro Baptist Church because, if she did, she would know they are far from being a “peaceful, non-confrontational group of folks.” Would “peaceful, non-confrontational folks” picket funerals, yelling and waving signs that say things such as “God hates f__s,” “God hates America,” “Pray for more dead soldiers” and “Thank God for dead miners”?

Imagine how Matthew Shepard’s family felt while grieving at his funeral to hear people yelling how he deserved to die because of his lifestyle. If Matthew Shepard had been heterosexual, he wouldn’t have been brutally murdered. That is why his case made the news.

WBC also protests funerals of fallen soldiers. How about attending the funeral of your son who died in the war in Iraq and hearing them yell and wave their signs saying your son deserved to die in the war because God hates America’s tolerance of homosexuals? They’ve also protested Billy Graham revivals because he doesn’t preach their “God hates homosexuals” doctrine.

Still think they are a “peaceful, non-confrontational group of folks?”

Happy holidays

Considering that the holiday seasons are upon us once again, I feel the need to catch up a bit, as I have fallen behind. I have this burning desire to wish everyone in America happy holidays. So, in honor of my Savior and constitutional right to free speech, here I go.

Happy Martin Luther King Day, Happy Valentines Day, Happy Easter, Happy Memorial Day, Happy Independence Day, Happy Labor Day, Happy Columbus Day, Happy Halloween, Happy Veterans Day, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.

Spewing hatred, division

Just as the right-wing corporate media has their own slime merchants called Hannity, O’Rielly and Limbaugh, among many others spewing their hatred and divison nationally, Cowlitz County has its own slime-flingers coming out from under their rocks, throwing venonous tripe for The Daily News readers. As these people hiss their poison on these pages, their political party has done the following to this country over the past 28 years:

• The biggest foreign policy disaster in the history of our country — $5 trillion in taxpayers' dollars when the occupation of Iraq is over.

• The biggest economic collapse since the Depression.

• Socializing the coporate banking structure because “free-market” deregulation was a catatrophe for our country.

• The destruction of our constituional rights, the abolution of habeas corpus and the torturing of Americans.

• The total politicalization and corruption of the U.S. Justice Department.

• The funneling of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars paid to contracting companies on a “no-bid” basis. The biggest corporate scandal of all-time. There is much, much more.

Now locally, I see American flags flying with the skull and cross bones flying around town, and deep in my heart, I wonder if we shall overcome someday.
