Longview police arrested a 28-year-old Kelso man on allegations that he beat his 56-year-old father for three hours with his fists and a chair leg, breaking his nose and possibly fracturing his skull.
The victim quoted James Martin Bougie as telling him, “You look bad. You had better call for help,” before leaving his father’s apartment in the 900 block of Ninth Avenue.
Bougie was booked into jail early Wednesday morning on suspicion of second-degree attempted murder and possession of marijuana. Because he refused to attend his first court appearance Wednesday, he was held without bail.
Although court documents list Bougie’s address as Kelso, he referred to his father’s apartment as “home” when talking with police.
Bougie’s father told police his son was angry with him because he opens the door whenever a Department of Corrections officer comes by, and if Bougie is present he is often arrested on a DOC violation. His father said Bougie blamed him for the arrests.
During the beating, Bougie said several times, “I am going to kill you” and “I am going to slit your throat,” his father said. He said the beating began about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and ended about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Police said the victim’s eyes were swollen shut, his nose was broken, he had cuts on his forehead and he might have a skull fracture. He was taken to St. John Medical Center for treatment.
The victim gave police his key along with permission to enter his apartment, where they found Bougie, the report said. Police said there was a strong smell of burnt marijuana in the apartment and a small amount of marijuana in Bougie’s pocket.
Police said Bougie had blood on his clothing and his hand was swollen. He denied assaulting his father, saying he had been elsewhere at the time.

It is a plant like grapes. I think he would've done the same thing if he was on alcohol. So yes, I believe in legalizing pot! He sounds like one angry bitter pill whether he smoked or drank. "
