A Longview couple who own the Oregon Way Tavern is doubling their holdings by adding a second tavern across town.

Earlier this month, Jody and Glenn Davis opened the Washington Way Bar and Grill in a building formerly occupied by the Doghouse Saloon.

Jody Davis has been bartending for nearly 20 years, and the couple decided to leap into owning a business about three years ago when they purchased the Oregon Way Tavern.

For Glenn Davis, owning a bar was a welcome career change.

“I was tired of swinging a hammer,” the former contractor said. “We had the opportunity, so we did it.”

The best part about owning a bar is the clientele, the Davises agree.

“You meet lots of people,” Jody Davis said.

At the Washington Way location, the Davises have added another pool table, pull tabs and an outdoor beer garden. Four new flat-screen televisions adorn the walls.

During the day, the Washington Way Bar and Grill will likely see a lot of workers getting off their shift, Glenn Davis said. The tavern serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the bar will have nightly karaoke, he said.

The Washington Way Bar and Grill is the third tavern at 934 Washington Way in two years. The Triangle Tavern, which had been there for years, closed last year and was replaced by the Doghouse Saloon, which closed this summer.

The Washington Way Bar and Grill opens at 9 a.m. daily and closes around 2 a.m. For more information, call 578-0282.

Storage facility opens

Solo Storage opened earlier this month at 3901 Memorial Park Drive in Longview.

The 70-space storage facility has easy access and is lighted and fenced off for security, said owner Dana Minium.

The office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Storage units can be accessed from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week.

For more info, call 423-1205.

YIPPIE!.. the line between news and brain junkfood has become too blurry whatever "

" Why is everyone so snarly this morning? You know, ya this area has a lot of bars, will I go to this one? Most likely not since I dont go to all the others either. I am not a bar dweller. But you know what, wish these people luck in their venture instead of being so negative. Least they are stepping out there trying to make a go of a business. Just because its not your type of biz, doesnt mean everyone has to be so nasty about it. I would rather see the building open and doing something to keep some $$ in local pockets rather than yet another vacant building in town. Cut them some slack or get off your own duffs and start opening a business yourself of what YOU think the area needs. "

Mrs. Pellwerds wrote on Dec 1, 2008 8:50 AM:

" This bar remaining open is an absolute necessity. With the law being so strict on drinking control I'm always getting cut off at the bars. When cut off I just drive to another bar to out back a few more before getting cut off there too. With this place open I won't have to drive as far, which could potentially endanger me or others. "

Pinky wrote on Dec 1, 2008 9:23 AM:

" good lordie people....we still have the same amount of bars... if someone just re-opens a bar that went under cuz it was poorly ran...that means we still have the same # of bars.. "

crowsfeet wrote on Dec 1, 2008 9:38 AM:

" Anyone ever notice that since you get busted for having two drinks and can't smoke and can only gamble on an Indian reservation and can't buy a wood stove for your house that doesn't meet EPA standards can't buy fireworks that might burn your fingers that the economy has went all to hell. We had a lot of bars here when the town was booming, glad I was here to remember the good old days. What are you going to look forwards to when you die if you want heaven on Earth. "

ACP wrote on Dec 1, 2008 9:45 AM:

" ban on karaoke?.....Now that's an idea that we should all get behind. I can't think of a better way to make Longview more inviting. I personally would travel great distance to enjoy a watering hole that doesn't wage constant assault on my hearing. "

" I used to go to the Doghouse often. They were one of the most popular bars in town. The Washington Way Bar & Grill hasn't been able to get back that clientale. I would like to go over there after I get off of work, but they have already closed for the night. The doghouse was always open 'til a certain time. "

DUH wrote on Dec 1, 2008 10:50 AM:

" Good lordie Pinky, Your math skills... HAHA! The old bar Closed this summer. So, how is it that we have the same number of bars we had in say, October? The new bar just opened so it sounds like one more than we had two months ago. But that's ok, ones thought process does get clouded by alcohol. "

Pinky wrote on Dec 1, 2008 10:59 AM:

" <---- is a go go dancer.. and loves the heck out of it... one of the local dance clubs in town is contemplating adding go go dancers... "

mike oxbigg wrote on Dec 1, 2008 11:48 AM:

" Let's just break down and get some strip clubs. "

Pinky wrote on Dec 1, 2008 11:51 AM:

" Duh.. I have said it before and will say it again.... your name suits you.. So get technical about it and say we had more than we did in October...as a matter of fact why don't you just keep a daily total... so you can post that about every establishment that opens up that serves alcohol.... a two or three month shut down while a place of business changes ownership and/or management ultimately does not leave us one more/less than we were before.... and oh yeah I am totally drunk right now... alcohol can be consumed and enjoyed responsibly, by responsible people. Not every one that lets alcohol touch their lips is the person that affected your life. Just this weekend, I personally drove home 3 different friends because I was sober and they were not. Don't judge what you don't know. "

" I'm curious to know if there is going to be a pool league night? Thursday's would be a prime night. I'm already booked over at the B-walk on Monday nights. Tuesday nights aren't good cause I'm usually over at the Star having a couple tacos. Wednesday I can't do, cause I'm obligated at the Shammy for steakburgers and Friday nights my wife want's to go have dinner and catch a movie... "

DUH wrote on Dec 1, 2008 3:39 PM:

" Tell me there Pinky. Just what good comes from consuming alcohol? I can answer that... NOTHING good Ever comes from drinking alcohol. Don't even think about the red wine argument. Everyone knows that people don't go into these establishments for just one glass of red wine and then leave. People drinking alcohol don't affect me? What about my tax dollars that goes to house people arrested for DUI? What about my tax dollars that goes to pay for their day in court? That doesn't stop with just DUI's. It goes for all alcohol related offenses. But hey, I don't expect anybody that defends alcohol to ever understand any of that. They get pissed at the cops because they got busted. They don't care what it costs anybody else. What about us that pay each and every day of our lives because we lost a loved one due to somebody driving after consuming that precious liquid that you so defend? What about my kids that walk by these establishments and get to see and hear the people inside being loud and roudy? You don't thing that weighs on them? You want to preach to me about responsible drinkers? The only responsible drinkers are the ones that do it at home and stay at home. But that wouldn't be too lucrative for a self professed GO GO dancer, would it? "

" Hey duh... your name still suits you. I said it before and I will say it again.....not everyone who drinks alcohol is the dumba$$ that killed your loved one. Not everyone who drinks is irresponsible and gets in trouble. And while we are on the subject of things you know nothing about, when I am go go dancing I am WORKING so I do not drink anything but soda or water. You want to know what good alcohol has done? It has helped white boys dance for years... (that's a joke, but hey it is not like I expect YOU to have a sense of humor) "

" DUH: Sounds like you think we should reinstate prohibition. Humans have enjoyed libations since we figured out that drinking fermented plant matter alters our perception of reality. Yes, drunk people have done stupid things, but so have many sober people. Perhaps you should be happy that a new business is opening in Longview, at least the people that work there won't be unemployed and flirting with alcoholism to numb the depression. "

ERICB454 wrote on Dec 2, 2008 9:55 AM:

DUH wrote on Dec 2, 2008 10:05 AM:

" I've been waiting to see how long it would take for somebody to throw in the word prohibition. Did I ever say in any of my comments that I wanted alcohol banned? No I did not. I never said I wanted any of these bars or taverns closed down. What I am saying is... There are enough bars and taverns in this town already. Why do we need more? What kind of message does it send to our kids when they learn by example, and the example we are giving them is that the only way to have fun is if alcohol is involved? You people sound like you wont be happy until every business on every street is turned into a drinking establishment. "

I'm sorry, DUH, I just assumed that you read your own comments before they were posted. I apologize for picking up on your obvious inference and attempting to actually nail you down to a viewpoint for the purposes of argumentation. However, from an objective standpoint, decrying the evils of alcohol, arguing that no good ever came out of it, opposing the existence of drinking establishments, and using words like "you people" to describe the drinking public sounds almost exactly like Temperence League talking points. " In today's apparent struggling economy, making and selling toilet paper seems to be do very well, thank you very much. So buy Angel Soft, Quilted Northern, MD or Brawny papertowels or any of the store brands at Costco, because it all comes from the local Wauna mill and you assure your support for local jobs by not buying the not make local brands. Go into Target and insist they put Brawny back on the shelves. It comes from Wauna and the other brand doesn't. So here is to toilet paper and paper towels. Yeah G-P Wauna!!! "

The idea of serving food sounds like it may be a good one. Sorry I won't see you there, I only party at home. Those of you that go, make sure you line up a designated driver so your night is good right up to the time when you stagger into you bed at home!
