Kelso police arrested a Tacoma man on suspicion of assaulting a Kelso woman early Sunday morning.
The victim, 38, told police she was walking to the convenience store to buy cigarettes at 2:30 a.m. when a blue Honda pulled up suddenly behind her and startled her. She said the driver jumped out and began beating her up. She did not know him or his passenger, she said.
A witness at the Shell Food Mart, 115 Kelso Drive, told police Sunday he saw a man in the parking lot kicking a woman so hard his shoe flew off. Police found an insole in the parking lot.
Police stopped a blue Honda nearby on the southbound Interstate 5 on-ramp. The victim identified the driver, Andrey Vladimirovich Golovatyy, 20, of Tacoma, as the assailant, the report said.
Golovatyy was wearing a shoe with a missing insole, police said. He was booked in lieu of $75,000 bail on suspicion of second-degree assault.
Police said Golovatyy’s passenger told them Golovatyy was upset about marital problems.
An officer drove the victim to St. John for treatment of injuries to her face, hip, back and hands.
