YAKIMA — If his team loses, Lower Columbia College women’s basketball coach Chad Meadors usually isn’t impressed with how his team performs.

Saturday was the exception.

“It’s crazy. I can’t believe I am saying this, but we won on Friday and we didn’t play very well. And we lose (Saturday), and I thought we played three times better,” Meadors said following an 86-67 loss to powerful Yakima Valley in the semifinals of the NWAACC Tip-Off Women’s Basketball Tournament.

“Yakima is an excellent club. We made too many turnovers (25), we only made 1-of-9 3-pointers and we were 14-of-26 at the free-throw line. We lost by 19, but there are lots of places we can clean make up those 19. I thought we made strides as a team.”

Jade Haas had 13 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Devils (1-1), who play Columbia Basin at noon today for third place. Sadie Salte chipped in 13 points, and Holly Weston had nine points and five boards.

LCC shot 50 percent from the field (26-of-52).

Chelsea Nill scored 25 to pace Yakima Valley.
