CD release party at Monticello

Longview jazz/funk musician Kevin O’Reilly will throw a release party for his CD “Way Back Home” at 7 p.m. Sunday as a benefit for CAP. O’Reilly’s band, the Reefside Drifters, will headline a show in the Monticello Hotel ballroom.

O’Reilly’s influences include funk band Tower of Power, soul-rockers Cold Blood and jazz-rock fusion gods Steely Dan.

His band includes singer Kyle Harbaugh, drummer Kurt Harbaugh, Gary Oldroyd on bass, Steve Darvel on guitar, Dean Rankin on pedal steel, Jeff Steinbock on sax and possibly percussionist John Thomas.

The concert will also include gigs by blues/rock/country singer Raeann Phillips, without her backup band, and Monette Vi and Montage featuring Dangerous Dan, which does blues.

Tickets cost $10 for singles and $15 per couple.

Schubert at St. Stephen's

Chamber Music Northwest will present a recital including Schubert’s B flat Piano Trio at 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church parish hall, 22nd and Louisiana.

Performers will be pianist Tim Janke, Donald Kirkpatrick on violin and cellists John Brecher and Mike Woods.

Admission is free.

Comic relief in Rainier

In case you need some election-oriented laughs, check out Rainier Junior/High School’s production of Neil Simon’s comedy “The Star Spangled Girl.”

The play is about two eccentric leftists, played by Chris Shult and Nick Clark, who publish a failing magazine dedicated to fighting “the system” in late 1960s America. Patricia Atkinson plays a girl with traditional American values who moves in next door. Political bickering, death threats and a love triangle result.

“The Star Spangled Girl,” directed by Laurie Kash, runs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday in the Briarcliff Auditorium. Tickets cost $5.
