Zorn doubts Holmgren will walk away from NFL

E-mail this article ASHBURN, Va. — Add Jim Zorn to the list of people who think Mike Holmgren won’t be able to stay away from football.
The Washington Redskins coach, who worked for Holmgren for seven years as Seattle Seahawks quarterbacks coach, said his old boss has contributed too much to the game to just walk away.
“He’s one of those guys, much like Bill Walsh, when he is done, there’s a history there of influence that actually gets taken out of this game,” Zorn said Thursday. “He’s had and still does have a tremendous amount of influence in this league. When he leaves, there is a major gap that has to be filled by somebody.”
Holmgren has announced this will be his final season coaching the Seahawks, ending a 17-year run as an NFL head coach. He will take a self-described sabbatical from football in 2009 and has been coy about his future beyond that. He has also said he envies the comfortable, powerful job that friend and former coach Bill Parcells has as a top executive with the Miami Dolphins.
“I hope that he gets back in,” Zorn said. “I don’t know about coaching. He’s pretty intelligent when it comes to fashioning a group, putting a group together, so it may be that.”
Zorn paused, then added with a twinkle in his eye: “He may not be able to stay away from calling plays, you know what I mean? So I don’t know what he’ll do.”
