The Longview Public Library will join hundreds of libraries throughout the country Saturday for the first celebration of “National Gaming Day @ your library.” Longview Public Library will offer special board games, online games and video games for the whole family.
During National Gaming Day, libraries will bring to the table a social gaming experience that includes chess, but goes beyond traditional board games. Participants can play in two nationwide events, a video game tournament and an attempt to set a record with “Pictureka!” for the most number of board game players at the same time.
“Games at the library encourage young patrons to interact with diverse peers, share their expertise with others (including adults), and develop new strategies for gaming and learning,” said Jan E.V.W. Hanson, the Longview Library’s youth services librarian.
Events take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the library’s lower floor.
