Nov. 12 Letters to the Editor
Rude drivers
On Nov. 7, I had an appointment downtown and afterwards had some errands to run before going home. I stopped at the red light at Commerce and Douglas and, when the lights changed to green, went forward and made a signal to turn right into Sinnett’s driveway. As I was turning, the car behind me also turned right behind me into the outgoing lane into Sinnett’s, then crossed over in front of me.
Apparently, the young lady was in a hurry and didn’t want to wait for me to finish turning and then follow behind me to a parking space. She created a small hazard that could have caused an accident had another car backed out of a parking space. She was going much faster than the speed limit.
Unfortunately, this is something that is happening all over the city of Longview. Impatient drivers, rude younger drivers, who think they should have the right of way. This is happening more and more. The drivers of today have less courtesy for others on the road. I am not a teenager, but a Senior Citizen who goes with the speed limit and has courtesy and respect for other drivers. I do not “poke” along as some senior citizens do, but I don’t cut them off, either. They have just as much right to be on the road as the younger drivers. A little more respect, please.

Don’t leave pets in cars
I would like to respond to the letter Dorothy McDonald wrote Nov. 6 regarding no place for pets. In the letter, she states that pets should be left at home or in the car. Wrong.
No one should leave their animals or children in the car. It does not have to be hot for animals or children to overheat. I would like to place those people in a car with the windows cracked for the same length of time and maybe they would see why you shouldn’t leave them in the car.
If I see an animal or child left in a car and I have my cell phone, I will turn them in. If you cannot leave your child or pet at home or find adequate care for them, then don’t go to your destination at all. There are too many pets and children that lose their lives because of thoughtless people.

Saved at last
Thank you, America, for electing the right man for our president. It gives me such a good, good feeling.
There was only one way to go and that was up. Now we have the right leader to take us there.

Tale of Cinderella
Friday night I went to see “A Tale of Cinderella.” It was good. I liked the stepsisters and the godmother the best.
There was not a review for this play, but I hope people come to see it anyway.

Obama's a socialist
This is a response to Eric Hazen’s letter on Nov. 7. Barack Obama is a socialist. Well, maybe not, but he certainly is a left-wing extremist and the most liberal president we will ever have.
If socialized health care is so great, then why are Canadians coming here for our current health care system? And if you think socialism is so great, just ask any immigrant who comes from a socialist country, they’ll tell you that’s why they are here, to get away from it.
Hazen may have worked hard since he was 12, but all those types of jobs he mentions don’t normally come with a benefit package, including health care. He may have to look outside the local area to get what he wants. I work hard for my health care. Why should I pay for his? Why should people who work hard to make $250,000 or more (and I’m not one of them) be punished because they do so, and people who refuse to work be rewarded? That’s called class envy.
Obama may not be a socialist, but he certainly is going to force it on us. I guess the change Obama wants is the change in our pockets. Dig deep, you get what you vote for.

Sports in Washington
Mariners couldn’t win a game. Neither could the Seahawks, Huskies or Cougars, and the Sonics took off like a big bird. It’s gotta be the water.

Election made a difference
Thank you to all the caring people who, even in these difficult times, voted for the CUBS system. You have made a difference in the lives of many people who rely on CUBS every day. Thank you again.

Politicians haven’t evolved
Our politicians are another argument against the theory of evolution. There is no way our current crop in Washington, D.C., could write a constitution. They couldn’t even agree on an assistance package when they had the Chrysler loan, as an example.
Locally, how can the cities even consider looking outside for a police chief? Any company or organization that isn’t grooming a replacement for the top job isn’t planning ahead and someone should be fired. If no one in the organization is qualified, someone didn’t choose employees well. If someone in the organization is qualified, why waste time under the pretense of “looking outside”? Indecision is always damaging to morale in the organization and the community. Citizens ask why they should respect the choice if there was so much doubt.
I learned years ago, “Do something. If it is wrong, it will slap you in the face and you can correct it. The worst possible course of action is to do nothing.”
Kelso is doing nothing.
