Nov. 11 Letters to the Editor

Time to get to work

It has been stated that Barack Obama cannot possibly deliver everything he has promised the American public. It is too much.

Trickle-down economics and unregulated enterprise have the middle-class under attack and the world facing a global depression. We have two war fronts to contend with, moral and ethical lapses to reverse, a global meltdown of the world’s biological health, an unfinished confrontation with terrorism to quash, national health-care needs to meet, a Social Security system to fix.

No one man can possibly deal with all those Herculean tasks. But we cannot turn away from any of them. John Kennedy, nearly 50 years ago, admonished the country to “ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.” It is time for each of us to shoulder that mission and get to work making our country great again.

Nothing good about socialism

Eric Hazen (Nov. 7 letter) has his head buried in the sand if he believes there is something good about socialism. We presently have the best health care system in the world. Any government-run system has turned into a “wait and die” system where costs extremely exceed estimates.

After a certain age determined by the government, you are no longer allowed certain medical procedures. A recent Canadian who had a seizure was told he would have to wait six months for an MRI. He went to Buffalo, N.Y., and had one in one day. He had a cancerous brain tumor and was operated on within a week. Under the Canadian system, he most likely would be dead before his scheduled MRI.

There are many other horror stories concerning socialist-run health care. In Finland, income is taxed at the rate of 75 percent. This means 75 percent of your income is spent on things other people determine are in your best interest. You are only left with 25 percent of your income to spend as you choose. Socialism takes from the workers and gives it to those who choose not to work. Those who work really hard and earn a lot of money are punished through a progressive tax system. Socialism has failed every- where it has been tried, and liberals still wish to bring this failed system here. Barack Obama is a socialist.

Nuclear power

Many people have no idea how easy and ahead of the times nuclear energy is. If you have a water entrance, it is as easy as inviting the U.S. Navy to station one of their subs or carriers in your area. All the community has to do is provide the electrical hook up.

You do not have to make all the mistakes that were made with Trojan, and when the sub or carrier retires, it just sails away to the appropriate yard and another one is stationed at your port. In the not too distant future, nuclear material will be dear, but at this juncture there are few alternatives as nice as having your our U.S.S. Reagan as a member of your community.
