MONTESANO — Toledo missed an opportunity on Monday night as Forks downed the Indians 25-17, 21-25, 26-24, 25-16 in a Southwest Washington 1A League Evergreen Division tiebreaker game.
"We struggled, especially with serves," Toledo coach Rene Ketchum said. "We missed way too many serves, like 15-16, and you can’t do that in a playoff game."
Kelsey Stone had six kills for Toledo, and Nicole Ewers added five. Courtney Timmons was the Indians’ only 100-percent server.
This loss knocks Toledo into a loser-out, winner-to-district game against La Center here at 4:00 tomorrow.
SOCCER
Rockets humble Beavers
CASTLE ROCK — Castle Rock endured the full force of the elements in Monday’s soccer action, but the Rockets earned a 3-0 playoff win over Tenino and a ticket to district play.
"It was a wet game," CR coach Rick Schlecht said. "Mud was a factor. The girls were slipping all over. But we had an aggressive game on both sides."
Kayla Moore scored the winning goal less than two minutes into the game, and she assisted Heather Turner’s second-half insurance goal as well. Dara Rule took advantage of Tenino defensive miscues to make it 3-0. The Rocket goalkeeper, Kayla Schlecht, made a great save on a late-game penalty kick to preserve her shutout.
The Rock gets to play on Kalama’s turf field in its district opener, a match against Toledo at 7:00 Thursday.
