Longview police are searching for a man suspected in two separate robberies in the Longview area Tuesday.

The suspect’s name is Joshua R. Phillips, 22, a 6-foot-2-inch, 175-pound white male. Since the incidents he has shaved his head and is known to wear baseball caps over a dark, knitted cap, according to police.

On Tuesday, a woman was struck in the head with a pipe on the 1200 block of Commerce Avenue after she refused to give up her valuables by a man, who then fled the area, according to police.

Later that day, a man grabbed a woman’s purse out of her hands in the parking lot area of St. John Medical Center and ran, according to police.

Anyone with information on Phillips is instructed to call 911 and not approach him because he is considered armed and dangerous.

In September, Phillips was arrested by Kelso police on suspicion of stealing a car, then crashing into a house in Kelso while fleeing police, according to Daily News archives.

" Slightly off the subject, but when the male got stabbed out by Abernathy I wrote a post about people kill people, not guns. TDN chose not to publish it. Most likely because I was pointing my fingers at a well known person who contributes to the postings a lot. Well guess what? Heres another example where no fire arm was used and the results were the same. Bodily injury. That being said, on to the subject. I pray that the woman is ok and doing well. Incidents like this seem to happen every year about this time. I suggest you separate your CC, DL, and other important items from your purse. Put them in a pocket. Carry only the money you need. If approached give them the purse. You may loose a few dollars, but retain your ID and in some cases your life. "

" El Fuego~ THANK YOU for positive input! Hi Five! ^5 Finally something we can learn from and actually use! This is the type of thing our police and higher up s in our area should be promoting! Not only to the reference of "time of year" (very good) but inpowering ones self with thinking ahead. Again El Fuego, THANK YOU. God Bless. "

" I hate when it takes so long to get a photo of the suspect. No telling how many times we have passed by this man and didn't know he was dangerous. If he already has a police record you would think a police photo is readily available. Speaking of police...what in the heck was going on on Ocean Beach Highway last Thursday night? There were police cars sitting sideways in the intersections passed Walmart...as far as I could see down OBH there were cops in all the intersections with their lights on. All the traffic signals were working & the cars were sitting at weird angles. I dropped my son off at Karate and while I was sitting there a police cruiser went by at such a high rate of speed that it scared us. (I have NEVER seen anyone go that fast ever.) When I got back on Ocean Beach I noticed some of the police cars had left the intersections in the direction the cruiser went, but driving towards home those officers were still sitting in the intersections. I quickly drove home since it looked like they were waiting for somebody. I hate when you see something like that and nothing is EVER in the Daily News about it. Anyone know what was going on?? "

" Oops sorry Daily News! lol Thanks for the information...it really freaked me out. I was sitting so close to the road when that officer went by so fast it made our car shake. I had a feeling something bad happened but wasn't sure. Sorry for saying TDN didn't cover it. I apologize. I saw somebody running by when I was sitting there but the cops missed it. "

" Good lord! The police record on this guy is a mile long. I can't believe he's even out on the streets. Amazing! Not only is his police record a mile long, but according to his police record he is not afraid to violate any rules the courts places on him. He obviously is not afraid of the law for sure. Probably because he keeps getting slapped on the wrist and allowed back out on the streets. It also shows he's not afraid to threaten people with a deadly weapon for sure. I hope somebody QUICKLY finds a photo of this man so it can be put out to the public. He seems to have a police record all over the place so he's probably left Longview and going back and forth between all the places he seems to like to hang out at. "

" There is a reason that people like me have a conceal carry permit, and exercise that right daily. I wish more people would do the same, this kind of crap wouldn't happen as much if the bad guys knew that the good guys can defend themselves.......... "

" DW,I agree, but also disagree.A concealed weapons permit,Doesnot tell you, that the gun can be used against you, if you are not prepared to shoot someone,a big mental step!!!! IT IS NOT LIKE T.V.If you are not in control of your, fear and adrenaline, you will "miss" your target, even at point blank range !!! trained police, even lose it,so don't think a concealed weapons permit will protect you!!!! "

" Mole, you do have a point. I have been in a life an death situation twice in my life. It is very intense and if you can't keep you head screwed on straight, you could easily make the wrong decision, or as you put it miss. I can tell you from my experiences that carrying a firearm is a huge responsibility. I however have chosen to make that choice, because I would rather "have" the option to defend myself or others, rather than not have that choice. One day I have no doubt that I will be put, again, in a situation to make a split second decision that will affect myself and others. Hopefully, I again will be able to make the right decision, and like the others before, the situation was diffused and nobody got hurt. Had I not had the tools I needed to make a difference, my family would surely have been hurt. "

" Token anti gunner here. I've been crusing through life pickin up hitchhikers, taken em home, feeding....all without a gun, for decades. Lucky? I don't think so. The odds of running into that really bad ass is so very, very slim, I'll choose to help those in need, while using my instincts to avoid bad situations. Many read headlines, many are afraid, many carry guns. For the arguement that people will do harm with or without a gun....totally rediculous....sure there are a few cases, but MOSTLY it is the finger pulling a trigger that make violence remote, and easy. "

DUH wrote on Nov 2, 2008 10:28 PM:

" I have several friends and family members with concealed weapons permits. You want to know something? Not one of them brags about it like you people on here do all the time. You people like to flex your muscles and think you're better than everybody else because you "pack heat". Big deal! As every one of my friends and family with concealed weapons permits have said time and time again, " A permit to carry a gun is NOT a permit to use it." "

SPARROW wrote on Nov 2, 2008 11:29 PM:

" A person laying in wait to attack or rob someone has the advantage of surprise, especially if the victim is preoccupied and not overly caucious of their surroundings. In one of these cases, had there been a gun in the purse, it would now be in the possession of the thief. With holidays nearing there will be many more victims of this same type, as there is every year. But I can't help but notice, no matter how many times people are warned to take cetain precautions to protect themnselves and their valuables while shopping or in busy public areas, you can look around and see purses in unattended grocery carts, valuables laying in plain view on car seats, and just plain careless behavior by so many. Not to say that either of these incidents were the result of their actions, but there are many out there that are. These kind of guys are everywhere, and learn what makes these cowards move on to an easier target than yourself to pick on. "

" destinyN- Yes, it is sad that some of us feel the need to carry. But the sad truth is, as long as we are a culture that is going to include human beings, there is going to be a predator/prey relationship in some fashion. I choose not to be prey. And, hopefully, I may go through life never having to use a weapon for defense. But if I do, there will only be one winner, and it won't be someone trying to violate me or my family. "
