MEDFORD, Ore. — Rape charges against a former St. Mary’s School coach have been dismissed.

The charges against 40-year-old Victor E. Matoush were dropped Wednesday after Jackson County prosecutors obtained new evidence that was turned over to Matoush’s defense attorney.

A 38-year-old woman had accused Matoush of tying up and raping her at the end of a consensual sex encounter in June 2007.

Matoush is a graduate of Ashland High School and Southern Oregon University who served as girls varsity basketball coach at St. Mary’s for three years until March 2007.

He was hired as girls basketball coach for South Salem High School in June 2007, but his employment ended after his arrest on the Jackson County charges.

" Yup, and I'd be willing to bet that they didn't turn around and charge this woman for filing a false police report. I hope that Mr. Matoush sues the woman for everything that she has and will have. "

" It's a shame the school board didn't have the integrity to not fire him until he'd had his day in court... You would think that a suspension would be fine to keep him out of the classroom until they figured out if he was a rapist or not. "
