PORTLAND — An education coordinator who worked under contract at a Portland prison has pleaded guilty to official misconduct after falling romantically for an inmate.

Sharon Lee Simovic was sentenced to two years of bench probation and 80 hours of community service at the Oregon Food Bank. State officials started investigating the 57-year-old after rumors linked her with a 32-year-old inmate at the Columbia River Correctional Institution.

Though there’s no evidence the two had a physical relationship, but investigators discovered love letters passed between the two.

Simovic worked at the prison under contract to help inmates put together plans for coursework that would earn them high-school equivalency diplomas.

" She needs educated herself on what the meaning of "Con" is. Sad this happened. Our (and Oregon's) prison system's need Educational Programs. "
