FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — A man and a woman were killed when a driver on Interstate 5 in Federal Way crossed the median into oncoming traffic, causing a five-car crash.
Two people, including the driver of the car that crossed the median, were hospitalized. Two others suffered minor injuries.
The Washington State Patrol says the driver of the crossover vehicle, a 51-year-old Puyallup man, was arrested for investigation of vehicular homicide. They say he was driving northbound and crossed into the southbound lanes about 6 p.m. Thursday.
Trooper Curt Boyle tells The Seattle Times that one of the dead victims was a 61-year-old Seattle woman. Her 66-year-old male passenger was hospitalized.
Southbound traffic was backed up for miles well into Thursday evening.
