Longview Public Library celebrates the 11th annual Teen Read Week, from Monday through Saturday. The themed event urges teens to read a wide variety of books and graphic novels, from animals to vampires to cooking, just for the fun of it.
“Teens who read for fun are becoming an ‘endangered species’,” said Youth Services Librarian Jan E.V.W. Hanson. “It’s important not only to encourage teen reading, but that teens see the significant adults in their lives using libraries and reading for pleasure.”
During the week, teens can vote for books (“The Teen Top Ten”) at: www.ala.org/teenstopten
They can also start reading this week for the Wrestle Mania Reading Challenge, and they’ll win prizes if they log ten or more books by Jan. 12, 2009.
See Longview Public Library’s Web site for teens for more information: http://www.longviewlibrary.org/teens.html
