SALEM, Ore. — Safe sex posters featuring condoms can go back up at Willamette University after a parent's complaint prompted student officials to tighten the rules.

Willamette's House of Hall Representatives voted Thursday night to allow resident assistants to hang any poster deemed appropriate for health and safety including posters containing condoms.

Senior Ildi Hrubos of Students for Choice said she supported the posters. "It really doesn't make sense to take them down," she said. "It's nice to know that Willamette recognizes the need to educate us about sexual health."

" Haha, come on parents. Your kids are in college, not elementary schol, a poster about condoms is nothing. "

" a parents complaint? This a University were talking about, I'm sure the worst thing your child is going to come in contact with is not a condom poster! I'm literally laughing out loud at this. Give me a break. "

" This reminds me of Gov. Palin's lack of teaching safe sex at schools. Look where it got her underage daughter. "

" Some people will complain about anything. If this parent is so concerned about a condom poster, perhaps they should lock their child up in the closet for the rest of his or her life. I'm with you guys- laughing my butt off. "

TheGenius wrote on Oct 17, 2008 11:09 AM:

" Seriously, it's Willamette, not BYU. A parent complaining about a condom poster has obviously never watched "Animal House." They would probably have a stroke if they went to any frat house on a Saturday night. "

" Would you like a banana with that condom? Just as a teaching aid of course...... "

AmericanGirl wrote on Oct 17, 2008 1:16 PM:

" This is great, The Kids (not) need to know all about the real world while they are hanging posters they should hang one that shows what a aborted baby looks like and diseased sex organs after all this is real life and they are adults. "

overeducated wrote on Oct 17, 2008 2:35 PM:

" AmericanGirl: If they wear the condoms there won't be sexual disease or abortion. If your mom and dad had let you attend sex education class you would know that. "

DW wrote on Oct 17, 2008 3:02 PM:

" we_todd, give me a break. I suppose you know exactly what your kid is doing 24/7. Why is it that when a "R" does something wrong, people loose it, and when a "D" does something wrong, it just gets glossed over...hhmmmm "

AmericanGirl wrote on Oct 17, 2008 3:08 PM:

" overeducated: How long have condoms been around and yet we still have abortions and many sexual disease's so you may be the one that needs to attend a class or two.I my self only have adopted cheldren. "

TheGenius wrote on Oct 17, 2008 4:08 PM:

" So, wait a minute AmericanGirl, are you saying that you're anti-condom? On college campuses? Gulp... "

AmericanGirl wrote on Oct 17, 2008 4:33 PM:

" To Genius no I am not anti-condom I just see that with condoms around for years we still have abortion and disease. "

" Palin is telling everyone that absinence only is all that is allowed to be taught; then her daughter Bristol (I include the name for humor) turns up pregnant at 17. Don't let the facts get in the way of your incorrect opinion lady. That is the highest form of hypocracy. The reaction has nothing to do with he daughter getting pregnant or that she is a republican. It is sheer hypocracy to preach one thing and prove with your own family it doesn't work. But I have a feeling with Palin that everything she touches is a complete disaster, thank god she'll never be elected. "

Raven wrote on Oct 17, 2008 7:54 PM:

" I have to laugh at this, mostly because the parents complained? I mean c'mon, how many psycho soccer moms live around here? "

Realist wrote on Oct 17, 2008 9:06 PM:

" GEEZ!! AG- ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Ok-- You want to know why condoms have been around and abortions and disease still happen? IT IS BECAUSE PARENTS HAVE THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND!!!!!!! You have parents who REFUSE to talk to their kids about BOTH safe sex AND abstinence. If you want PREVENTION--- you can't just talk about one and not the other! I'm sorry for the caps and exclamations-- but I am SO sick of people saying... "BUT WHY???" WAKE UP, PEOPLE! "

TheGenius wrote on Oct 18, 2008 10:08 AM:

" AmericanGirl- Yeah, but the problem with that logic is it's like saying we have seat belts but people still die in car wrecks so to hell with seat belts since they obviously do no good. As for Cheney119.... Ugh.... Not everything is the fault of Sarah Palin and John McCain and Republicans. The condom fiasco at Willamette started because of some uptight parent that's probably having issues with their kids leaving the nest. If you want to infer that this is the work of Palin and the Pro-Lifers, fine, but you look a bit daft in doing so. (Random thought: Does anyone else think the Condom Fiasco would be a good name for a band or an album? I mean, wouldn't you buy a record that said that?) "

Cheney119 wrote on Oct 18, 2008 10:50 AM:

" I was responding to DW stating that Palin was receiving so much attention to her family situation because she's republican. It's not because she's republican, it's because of hypocracy and the sheer ineffectiveness of abstince only ecucation, including for her own family. Yet she would make abstinence only all that is available to anyone. But I should not have to explain that to a genius, what a laugh. Wouldn't you think anti-choice people would be for contaception? Go figure. Their real problem is with sex in general, they might want to try having it once in a while, that would shut them up for a couple (2) minutes at least. "

AmericanGirl wrote on Oct 18, 2008 11:54 AM:

" TO Genius My point is everybody is saying they are adults I say show them the real world and stop candy coating everything. Oh wear a rubber and all will be good. I have heard people say when we have no foster care then we can talk and stopping abortion please someone tell me how abortions have stopped foster care or those sitting on walfare. "

TheGenius wrote on Oct 18, 2008 1:40 PM:

" And you're the expert on sex, cheney? I shudder at the thought. So, you really think that if Palin somehow became President, her first executive order would be abstinence-only education? Odds of that happening are slim and none, and slim's walking out the door. Let's be realistic, it won't happen. I am constantly amazed at how liberals will always try to strike fear into the hearts of voters by claiming if Republicans get elected, abortions will be outlawed and the sale of condoms will be banned and other nonsense like that. It's not going to happen. For Roe v. Wade, there needs to be case brought to the Supreme Court which challenges the legality of the Roe v. Wade ruling. Mind you, this has not happened in 30-odd years since that decision. Then, if they overturned it on Constitutional merits, the ruling would most likely put the issue for individual states to decide abortion laws, which is what it should be anyway. Again, I don't lose sleep over abortion laws because they don't affect me, and because I know we are stuck with the Roe v. Wade decision for quite awhile, if not my entire lifetime. You libs need to stop trying to scare people with hypotheticals, it's a tired act. "

Raven wrote on Oct 18, 2008 9:59 PM:

" I think there's too much coddling. Kids can't even take care of themselves anymore. These kids are in College for gods sake, it's not like they're handing out condoms at an elementary school. "

Seena wrote on Oct 20, 2008 3:03 PM:

" College students are adults. I think it is pretty sad that a parent cannot see the value in having educational posters including condoms on a college campus. Even worse that one parent can influence a whole university with such an obsolete way of thinking. I am glad the school was not too proud to admit to a mistake and retract their bad decision. "
