A Longview man who was accused of poaching and torturing a hunting dog to death received a 13-month prison sentence Monday from a Wahkiakum County judge.

Mickey Ray Gordon, who pleaded guilty last month to four charges, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Michael J. Sullivan, according to KATU.com.

According to court records, Gordon, 37, used two shock collars on the dog’s genitals and neck while kicking and stomping the animal in January 2007. The dog died shortly thereafter.

Other charges included hunting black bear, cougar, bobcat and lynx with the aid of dogs and trespassing on private lands.

Gordon was arrested with three other men and was described in court as the leader of a poaching ring, according to KATU. The other men pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges and have been sentenced.

Gordon had worked as a registered nurse at Providence Centralia Hospital. His comments to investigators about torturing his dog and hating elderly patients caused the state Health Department to suspend his license, according to state records.

" 13 months! Really?? What a slap on the wrist for this kind of crime. I at least hope that he never gets his nursing license back. He is not someone that I would be willing to trust with my life! "

" Its nice to know that the WDFW can bend the facts to fit whatever they like. Its also nice how they show pictures on KATU of animals that were legally shot and tagged and make them seem like they werent. Its just another lie that the WDFW is getting away with. "

" 13 months? what a crock. Had he been caught with an ounce of pot he would have gotten 5 years. This is what is wrong people - we need to lock up violent offenders longer. Mick should also have his license and his ability to obtain one, not suspended but REVOKED. And he should be sentanced to having to clean out porta-johns at busy construction sites for the rest of his life. "

" I really hope that the State also is going to say that this man can no longer have a gun, the rights to hunt or own any animals. "

" I beleive they did take away his firearms rights and revoke his nursing license for life. Unfortunately not everything you hear on the radio or read is correct. Then some things arent mentioned at all. "

" Mick i hope that you dont let people like this that talk horrible things about you get you down, I have got to know you over the years and I think that you are a wonderful person, Oh and super Funny!! I cant stand the fact that people can make up things and end up getting away with it (Like the WDFW! Mick I will miss you and be there for you family while you are away!!
Lots of Love from one that knows "

" To the people that think that 13 months was a crock... I agree, but it was an "exceptional sentence." The usual punishment for animal cruelty is an average of 3-4 months in county. And to jones, I don't get where this guy is such a wonderful person. I'm sorry, but wonderful people DO NOT kick and stomp their dogs while shocking them with a shock collar. Yes, he may have only gotten 13 months... (keep in mind, peeps, this means he goes to PRISON not county) when he gets there, he will see a world of hurt. Prisoners don't take kindly to child molesters OR animal abusers. "

" Can we get a picture printed of good ole Mick? Just want to be sure who to look out for you know.....

Oh, and WHY would Fish and Wildlife need to make up lies about this guy and his creepy friends?? I know, because they don't have enough legitimate work to do -note sarcasm* "

" I think that the sentence that he got should have beeen alot longer. And I really hope he is NEVER ALLOWED to hunt or own an animal again. And to think that this creep was a nurse. "

" jones18 - you must be really messed up in the head. He plead guilty, saying he did the aforementioned crimes (therefore getting out of several others, probably) and afterwards apologized! There were no trumped up charges, WDFW didn't make anything up, and this was caused by stupidity. Oh - and I'm sure they doctored the photos on TV as well. (sarcasm) Get your head out of the hole. Mick deceived you, the staff at the college he graduated from, his employers, and everyone else. He deserves far worse than what he is getting. "

" This is not right we must take a stand on these issues. Onley 13 months thats not right the dog probley had a few YEARS left in its life and this terrible man killed it! Thats wrong! Thats like killing a younger person! Exsept if you killed a perosn youd get life in prison! What is up with that! "

" Obviously jones18 condones animal cruelty and abuse. Keep your animals away from it. When I read comments like this it makes a person really wish for vigilante justice. But since it's against the law, and I respect the law (unlike Mickey Ray Gordon and jones18) we can only hope for karma when he is in prison. "

" Same type of people who fight dogs and call it sport, he was just punishing it in his mind I suppose. At least he has time to reflect on what he did.. "
