Clackamas County authorites are searching for a domestic violence suspect they believe may be employed as a house painter in the Longview-Kelso area.

According to the Clackamas County Sheriff’s office, Matthew Marshall Ledbetter, 30, reportedly entered his estranged wife’s residence in Clackamas on Oct. 3 and physically assaulted her and struck her with a handgun.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Unit reports it has probable cause to arrest Ledbetter on charges of first-degree burglary, coercion, fourth-degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon and violation of a restraining order.

Ledbetter is 6 feet tall and weighs 155 lbs. He is believed to be driving a red and silver 1988 Suburban with unknown Washington plates. He also may be living on a cream-colored 26’ Well Craft cabin cruiser-type boat with a hull number displayed as WN2288RM. He has a gray-and-white Great Dane.

Anyone with information on Ledbetter is encouraged to contact the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office or their local law-enforcement agency. In Clackamas County, the contact is Deputy Paul Wade, 503-655-8211 or paulwad@co.clackamas.or.us.

The case numbers are 08-28242 and 08-33853.

" Good grief! Every single time I think Longview can't turn any more ghetto we get word that a wanted person is in Longview. We have an increasing gang problem, we have a gun from a fatal shooting loose somewhere that our kids can probably get to, and now we have yet another criminal coming here. I'm telling you we have GOT to increase our manpower on our police force before it gets too dangerous to go in your own front yard. How many times does our schools have to go on lockdown before nobody wants to send their kids back there? I rarely see a police car on the road around here now. I see more fire trucks than cops. How many cops do we have now? Two??? "

" Well of course he's in the Longview area. Those type of domestic violence/marital issues are commonplace here and widely accepted. He simply moved to an area he knew he'd be welcomed to with open arms. "

" oh good grief. there are people like that EVERYWHERE. honestly, yes, there are areas of Longview that are worse than others, same with Kelso but in MOST cities you have areas like that.

look around. MOST of the people in the area are great people. yes, again, there is the negative, but I choose to look around at the blessings around me. thank God for the good supportive people around here (believe it or not there are a lot of them) rather than focus merely on the ones the bad. "

" RALmom2; they come here because we don't prosecute to the full extent our law allows, as evident in the actions of the prosecuting attorneys office today. They get a slap on the wrist and no one really looks for them. This guy does look familiar, not sure from where, but then again, lots of guys look like him... so who knows... I see him and yes I will call and let those that can arrest him know where he is and watch til they arrest him... you can bet on that. "

" Okay there Tex give yourself up! Have them smart people down at the "day hire" place there in Longview and call that number and surrender. (Sarcasm) is anything new in Longview or is the simular story ran everyday but with a diffrent name? I say step it up a notch and come together as a community and stop all this BS. I think we should start writing are mayor, LPD cheif, and anyone else that is important to figure out how to be more forceful in this town! "
