A Longview woman declared missing Friday has been found safe in a Las Vegas hotel with a friend, Longview police said Monday.

Patricia A. Wallis, 76, has early-stage dementia and Alzheimer’s disease but is considered high functioning and able to get around on her own. According to a police report, Wallis told employees at her residence of Westside Terrace on Thursday she was packing her bags to go to Hawaii with a male friend. The manager of Rodeway Inn told police he gave Wallis and her friend, Raymond Dinnan, a ride to the Portland airport Thursday.

Wallis’ court-appointed guardian learned of her disappearance Friday and called police. Las Vegas police are aware of the situation and have contacted Wallis, and her guardian has spoken with her by phone. However, there is no legal basis to take her into custody, Longview police said.

" Whose money are they using for this trip? Sounds to me like her "friend" is taking advantage of her illness. She can't be too high functioning if she didn't even know where they were going. There's a lot of difference between Hawaii and Las Vegas. Think maybe her guardian should be checking into this. "

" In this case... the court appointed guardian usually has control of dishing out funds for bills and necessities. I really can't believe that her funds were used for the trip. As far as getting lost, they may have given the destination of Hawaii to get a break from life and go where they wanted, or in her state of mind just gave out the wrong information. The good thing here is that she is safe and OK... her guardian will take care of the rest. LOL wish I could take off and spend time in vegas with no worries... how fun. "

" She's an adult, and I believe she should be allowed to go wherever she wants- no questions asked. She's not a child, and as long as there's no elder abuse involved, what's the harm in her getting away from this drab town and having a good time? At her age, she definitely deserves a good trip- Vegas, Hawaii, wherever she wants! Having a guardian should not be the same as being on probation! Go Grandma! "
