The body of a 42-year-old Vancouver fisherman was discovered early Wednesday morning in the Lewis River outside Woodland, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday from a man who said his friend had fallen into the river near the Happa Boat in northern Clark County while attempting to walk to the other side of the channel, according to the sheriff’s office. The swift current had pulled him quickly down stream.
Searchers from Clark County fire district 10 and 13, Woodland fire, the Southwest Washington Organization of Rescue Divers, Clark County Dive Rescue and the sheriff’s office spent much of the night searching the river and its banks for the missing fisherman, Clark County sheriff’s Sgt. Scott Schanaker said.
The body was discovered about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday in about eight feet of water, roughly 300 yards downstream from where the fisherman was last seen, according to Schanaker.
Deputies have no reason to suspect foul play, Schanaker said.
The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin, he said.
