Kids, young adults invited to enter essay contest

Go beyond the buzz to tell us for real how getting drunk and high changes people, families and communities. How is it tied to our health, our feelings, our good times?
Why do some young people drink, smoke dope and pop pills? Why do some avoid drugs and alcohol? Why is getting drunk and high so popular on college campuses?
The Cowlitz Substance Abuse Coalition and The Daily News invite young adults ages 16 to 22 to enter our contest, "Through My Eyes,"* and answer these or other questions about drugs and alcohol in an essay of 1,500 words or fewer.
Be true to what you have experienced. Tell us real stories. Help the community start a conversation.
Winning essays will be awarded cash-equivalent prizes and be printed in The Daily News. To enter "Through My Eyes:"
1. Write an essay, up to 1,500 words, about how drugs and alcohol affect your life or the community. Typed essays are preferred. If writing your essay, please use a pen.
2. On the back of the essay OR on a separate sheet of paper, write your name, age, a phone number where you can be reached and the county you live in or are from (Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Pacific, Columbia and Lewis counties only, please).
Judges will NOT see your name, and we will not use your information for anything else except to identify winners.
