The Daily News, Cowlitz League of Women Voters, Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce and KLTV are sponsoring the debate, which takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. at Longview City Council Chambers at City Hall, 1525 Broadway.

Members of the public may attend the debate live or watch live on KLTV. In addition, the debate will be scheduled for rebroadcast at later dates.

Three separate debates will be held, in this order:

n

n

Incumbent Cowlitz County Commissioner Kathleen Johnson will debate Woodland Republican Tom Wilson in the race for Commissioner District 1.

n

Incumbent Cowlitz County Commissioner George Raiter will debate Kelso Republican Rama Mitchell Jr. in the race for Commissioner District 2.

Each debate will follow the same format: Each candidate gets a two-minute opening statement. The candidates then will field questions from four panelists. The panelists are Jim McLaughlin, president of Lower Columbia College; Andre Stepankowsky, city editor of The Daily News; Sarah Cave, representing PeaceHealth; and Iris Swindell, representing the League of Women Voters.

A second debate is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 8 featuring candidates for 18th District legislative seats. This second debate will be taped and broadcast later on KLTV, but it will not be broadcast live.
