Oversized loads will be prohibited on the Lewis and Clark Bridge during part of Saturday and Sunday while state engineers give the Columbia River span its annual inspection.

The Washington Department of Transportation announced Friday that inspections will start at 7 a.m. Saturday and Sunday and continue through mid afternoon both days.

Two-way traffic will continue to flow across the bridge, but no wide loads are allowed during this work.

Motorists are reminded that traffic fines double within a construction work zone.

" Maybe they will trip and fall and notice the concrete is crumbling. Anything else they can do to screw up traffic flow??? "

" I agree. That bridge is already a mess. Beat up, destroyed, bumpy and thumpy. Kind of irritating. "

" The L&C Bridge should be replaced. "

" Maybe you guys just have lousy shocks.

I don't speed, so I haven't noticed any problems with the bridge surface.

It's new you know. "

" If you have ever been stuck in traffic in the middle of the Lewis and Clark bridge and the semis and log trucks roll by in the opposite lane and you feel that bridge shake like you are in an earthquake you would welcome the inspection and hope the inspectors know what the H@#$ they are doing.
We really need to quit dumping money into this nearly 100 year old bridge and build a new one. "

" The Cowlitz way bridge shakes when your stopped on it too. I think it is pretty normal. "

Aconserve wrote on Sep 26, 2008 1:55 PM:

" The bridge "shakes" because it supposed to. That's why bridges have expansion joints. No bridge is ridged. The bridge I think is in great shape. At least traffic will still be allowed to flow in both directions, would you rather they put flaggers up there and let traffic go one way at a time?? Lane shift is the way to go. "

" I use to talk to a guy in Chicago that was an engineer of roads and bridges and he said the shaking was normal. Although it is really quite unnerving sitting there watching wires and such moving around. lol. "

" I would much rather have a bridge that shakes than one that didn't. For those complaining about the L&C bridge being bumpy, have you driven on I-5 between Kelso and Castle Rock recently? That's gotta be the the most poorly maintained piece of road in the state. "

Gondolapete wrote on Sep 26, 2008 5:04 PM:

" UW I agree..that portion of road is horrible... "

CONCERENED wrote on Sep 27, 2008 9:25 AM:

" i could see a new bridge between longview and rainier, but it would be a toll bridge, how many complainers would be ready to ante up to pay to use it? hmmmm, just food for thought!! "

tazer baby wrote on Sep 27, 2008 5:09 PM:

" OMG, if they were even hintinig about replacing this bridge, you guys would be freaking out about having to pay...when, when will there be a non-hypocritical blog concerning the decision making process of our local leaders who we (you and I) put in charge? "
