Stakes too high for write-in

Shame on those who would write in Hillary on their ballot. Their attempt to punish the party could tip the scales to the Republicans.

Do they really want a 72-year-old man at the helm — a man who likes the idea of a prolonged war in Iraq and tax cuts for the wealthy as we borrow our way further into debt? Or a Sarah Palin administration? Sarah may get high marks on personality, but her policies are the exact opposite of Hillary’s:

n She lacks foreign policy experience. We went through that with George Bush.

n She thinks creationism should be taught in schools to the exclusion of evolution.

n She is strongly anti-choice even in cases of rape or incest.

n She was at odds with the Wasilla city librarian when Sarah wanted to know the process for banning books.

n She is solidly in line with Big Oil and scoffs at plans to convert to alternative energy.

n She sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as endangered because it might interfere with oil drilling in Alaska.

n She does not believe that climate change has any connection to human activity. Big corporations love this.

And can you believe the chant of “Drill Baby Drill” at the Republican National Convention?

Palin ought to be prosecuted

I think we ought to prosecute Gov. Sarah Palin for fraud. If it were us, they would prosecute us.

She kept the money for the Bridge to Nowhere, and she should be held accountable.

Bush has done a good job?

In response to Ken and Dianna Spring’s Sept. 6 letter, I have been sitting here trying to figure out how President Bush has done a good job with no terrorist attacks in nearly eight years.

Have they been to see the World Trade Center in New York lately? Not only that, nothing was done to the person or persons behind the entire ordeal. Osama bin Laden still sits in his cave laughing at us stupid Americans because we are led by a worthless lame duck “resident” who has done nothing but protect his own interests.

Gas prices are through the roof, the American dollar is darn near worthless, and we are at war with a country that has done nothing to us. So, could they tell me again how Bush has done such a great job? Bush is a bumbling idiot that should have been impeached

7 ½ years ago.

ADA compliance

I have seen in the paper recently several articles about ADA compliance. One place I would like to bring to attention is the Three Rivers Mall in Kelso. Only one of the two main doors has a handicap button to keep the door open.

Also, the Fibre Federal Credit Union at the mall is the only business that does not permanently keep its doors open for customers to travel through freely. At the beginning of the month, when seniors and disabled people go there to do their transactions, it is very difficult for them to open the heavy glass doors and get through. Automatic doors would also make it easier for moms with baby strollers to enter and exit the mall safely.

Men, women are different

Am I the only woman who can see that men and women are completely different? I’m not saying that one is better than the other, but our differences do qualify us to accomplish certain tasks better than the other sex.

Take this historical presidential campaign, for instance. This country was founded by men and built on principles they deemed worthy. I agree with them. In response to Tim Bales’ and Sylvia Schumacher’s letters on women voting emotionally rather than rationally, I feel most of them will.

In my experience of being a woman, and knowing the many, many women I have known in my lifetime, they tend to be emotional and act on those emotions. I feel these emotions will affect the female voters in their decisions on who they will vote for, but that they will equally affect the decisions made by a woman in office. Not such a good idea.

The great appeaser

The leader of Iran has been rattling the saber off and on for some time. Barack Obama is suggesting that we talk to him — do some visiting and have a good talk.

History tells us that, as the storm clouds were gathering over Europe just before World War II, England sent a person by the name of Neville Chamberlain to talk to Hitler. They met and had a nice visit, a good talk.

So he returned to England and announced to a cheering crowd that peace was at hand, that peace will prevail.

Not too long after that, the German Luftwaffe were making daily bomb raids over England.

Chamberlain was known as the great appeaser.

A wasteful agenda

I am unhappy about something I just read about in the AARP news magazine. Seems that NASA is now planning to build a launching pad on the moon to send humans to Mars. What a waste of money and talent needed for more important matters.

Maybe, because I was raised during the depression in the ’30s, my generation learned to respect and value our possessions and money. I learned to hate waste and a wasteful agenda.

Man cannot survive outside our Earth, and for what purpose if he could? Earth was made special for life (as we know it) and we should be spending our time, energy, talent and money to learn to preserve and protect it.
