CC SOCCER
Smith’s hat trick leads LCC
Katie Smith kicked in three second-half goals as Lower Columbia College pulled away from Everett 6-2 in NWAACC women’s soccer at Northlake field on Saturday.
The victory snapped a 4-game losing skid for LCC, now 2-4, 1-3 in league.
“The girls played hard, and we used the outside speed of Erin McIntosh and Kelly Park to score three goals in the first 20 minutes,” LCC coach Steve Taylor said. “We still need to play strong for a full 90 minutes, because we allowed them (the Trojans) to score two goals in the second half.”
Zury Romero scored twice and Erin McIntosh added a first-half goal, and both had an assist as LCC rolled to a 3-0 lead at the break. Smith’s goals in the second half came on her first extended play of the season after returning from a high-ankle sprain.
“Katie did a great job,” Taylor said. “She’s right-tooted, but she kicked in her second goal with her left-foot. Erika Clouse and Alycia Archibald also did a lot of dirty work and were key in controlling the middle of the field and the tempo of the match.”
LCC goalie Caitlyn Lyon finished with 10 saves.
