KNAPPA, Ore. (AP) — Vandals have broken every window in Knappa High School in northwest Oregon.

The district has closed the high school, and the adjacent elementary school — the only schools in the district.

Superintendent Rick Pass says someone using the track at the distinct near Astoria heard glass breaking at about 3 a.m. Monday.

He says more than 100 double-pane windows were smashed, and the vandals left behind graffiti.

Pass says he closed the elementary school, too, so the pupils would not be exposed to profanity.

He says the weather is good, so schools may be open on Tuesday even if the glass hasn’t been replaced.

" This totally senseless act is going to cost that school district money that should go for many important areas. Can someone explain what a challenge it is to break windows etc. It certainly doesn't take any brains. I hope they catch the vandals and make them pay. I don't want to hear any lame excuses. There is no excuse for this behavior. "

" Just wait, if caught, all they'll get is a slap on the wrist! "

" it appears to me that someone has a serious problem with the school, maybe folks should work harder on closing the divide between the so called leaders and authority figures and the people.... to the point that breaking a window of a school would feel like shooting yourself in the foot...... that way the kids whom the system is failing who dont act up might also have things improved for them.....

you tv fed people are just too much, your kids are trying to tell you something, listen before its too late. "

" Why was someone using the track near the 'distinct' at 3 AM? "

" to blue, you type as though you need some of that "better" education and understanding. While I do not believe that t.v. is the problem, I must agree that there is a big gap when it comes to the needs of the children. So many of the schools are passing children along even though they are not equal to the task. No child left behind is a joke. We have too many children that come from drug and alcohol affected backgrounds and need additional help and understanding and, THEY ARE NOT GETTING IT !!!!!!! The windows are a sign of the problem but the television viewing is not THE problem. I believe we are now at a time when we might have to start AA and Al-Anon meetings at schools??????? Knappa is not the only school district in this county with these problems. "

" OMG!! bluE!! Those kind of kids ARE trying to tell us something....like "put me away - I'm a loser and will try to drag everyone down with me for the rest of my life". Why do you have so much hate for the "authority figures and leaders"? "
