The Longview City Council on Thursday thanked Boy Scout Adam Teig for refurbishing 21 city-owned benches in downtown Longview as his Eagle Scout community service project.
Teig, who turned 18 on Sept. 5,
spent the summer repairing,
sanding and painting the benches on Commerce Avenue. A member of Boy Scout troop No. 327, Teig spent 500 hours on the project, according to Hank Sowerwine, Longview’s downtown business builder.
Several people and a couple of businesses donated lumber, glue, paint, equipment and labor. They included Teig’s family, Kelsey Rosales, Sam and Matthew Meyers, Ron Moore, Jeff Dean, Kyle Baker and Cloverdale Paint and Baker Lumber.
An Eagle Scout project is one of the final steps in achieving the Boy Scouts’ highest ranking. Before their 18th birthday, Eagle Scout candidates must plan, organize, lead and manage an extensive service project that demonstrates leadership and commitment to duty.
