1 Toutle Lake (1-0), Last week: 1

Last week: Defeated Raymond 42-0

2 Kalama (1-0), Last week: 10

Last week: Defeated Woodland 40-21

Smack: Coach Buchanan wanted to see how all of his new-to-varsity players would respond under the lights, and boy, did he get his answer.

T3 Montesano (1-0), Last week: 4

Last week: Defeated Elma 21-14

Smack: When the Bulldogs welcome Castle Rock to town tonight, it will feel like November. Monte has firmly established itself as the team to beat in District 4.

T3 Castle Rock (1-0), Last week: 7

Last week: Defeated Rochester 46-25

Smack: Chris Tinney is channelling Lucas Myers. Jed Lomer is just getting started. Zack Gehring will only get harder to handle. The Rock has some weapons this year.

5 La Center (1-0), Last week: 5

Last week: Defeated Ridgefield 40-15

Smack: With or without a full roster, the Wildcats will be tough to handle. La Center is still the favorite to win the Trico.

6 Mark Morris (1-0), Last week: 8

Last week: Defeated Kelso 20-14

Smack: The Mighties did it again, beating Kelso to further cement their “turned-the-corner” status. Watch out for Taylor Beck on the defensive line. He’s a star in the making.

7 Forks (1-0), Last week: not ranked

Last week: Defeated Sequim 19-0

Smack: Luke Dixon and Co. are getting lots of love. Can they live up to the hype? Montesano, Tenino and maybe even Toledo will have their say in the matter.

T8 Evergreen (0-1), Last week: 3

Last week: Lost to South Medford (Ore.) 17-0

Smack: No need to panic after a Week 1 loss to an Oregon powerhouse. The Plainsmen are still the team to beat in the GSHL 4A.

T8 Wahkiakum (1-0), Last week: not ranked

Last week: Defeated Naselle 13-0

Smack: The KM Mountain Trophy belongs to the Mules. Nice leadership from Fudge, Anderson, Baby Bear and Co. bodes well for a return to glory.

10 Rainier (1-1), Last week: 2

Last week: Lost to Banks 34-22

Smack: The Columbians finally come home after a pair of road trips. Portland Christian strolls up the hill to take on a squad coming off of a tough loss.
