Micky Ray Gordon, 37, of Longview pleaded guilty Monday in Wahkiakum County Superior Court to four charges related to illegal hunting and animal cruelty.

Gordon, who could serve more than a year in prison, pleaded guilty to first-degree animal cruelty, third-degree malicious mischief, second-degree criminal trespass into private woodlands and hunting black bear, cougar, bobcat or lynx with the aid of dogs.

In a plea bargain, the state dismissed four counts of second-degree criminal trespass, second-degree malicious mischief and second-degree unlawful hunting of big game.

On the charge of first-degree animal cruelty, the state will recommend that Gordon receive an exceptional sentence of up to 13 months in prison, pay a $1,000 fine and complete an animal cruelty prevention or education program to treat mental health problems contributing to the violation.

Gordon was accused of torturing his hunting dog to death in January 2007, including using two shock collars to shock the dog’s genitals and neck continuously while kicking and stomping on the dog, according to state records. The dog died shortly thereafter.

On the other charges, the state will recommend 45 days in jail for third-degree malicious mischief, 30 days in jail for second-degree criminal trespass and two months in jail for hunting black bear, cougar, bobcat or lynx with the aid of dogs, all to be served concurrently. On the hunting violation, Gordon also will have to pay a $300 fine and forfeit his hunting license.

Sentencing is set for Sept. 22.

" What is the matter with our justice system? If this man is capable of torturing and killing animals, no doubt humans will be his next target. He should stay in prison forever no parole. "

" Talk about a slap on the wrist!!! I said all along that Wahkiakum County would drop the ball on this one. This D-bag should be doing hard time for a long time. This is truly disgusting....The prosecutors and judge in this case should be asahmed of themselves. What a tremendous waste of resources. To have such an in depth investigation reduced to such meaningless sentence is outrageous. The investigation lasted longer than the sentence he will serve! What kind of message is this sending other Sickos with a proclivity to abuse animals? So much for podunk, hillbilly justice. Thanks Wahkiakum County, you never disappoint when it comes to disappointing..... "

" this is so sad. i hope this man gets pay back one day for his actions. i am sure he will end up in the dailie news one day saying he hurt or killed another human being. startes with animals and it will progress to the humans next. "

" This is the same guy who had his nursing license suspended for making comments during the investigation that made investigators think he might be a threat to his patients. "

" Sick piece of crap needs locked up for good. I agree that if he is capable of torturing an animal so terribly that a human could indeed be his next target. "

" They dropped the ball because they really didnt have any evidence. I think they are lucky it didnt go to trial. Without the daily news stories there wouldnt be enough to convict him. But since all these stories influence every one so much its a different story now. "

" There is no doubt in my mind, that he will end up doing the same thing to a human. Someone should do the same thing to him as he did to his poor dog. Let him feel the pain he put his animal through. If he does'nt die from it, then lock him up and throw away the key. Anyone that does such a thing is a disturbed cowhard. That just makes me sick. "

" Aw, quit your crying. This is what your vote gets. If you are going to elect leaders who will not be tough on crime and criminals, you get this kind of justice. If you base your vote on abortion rights, this is what you get. If you base your vote on union support, this is what you get. It's simple, almost everything starts with your vote. Will people ever realize that? This is more of the hug a criminal, scold him with a light sentence, and send him back into society justice system that has been developed by the party elected to be in control of this state for the past 25 years. Yes, yes, those pesky Liberals in Olympia. You get what you vote for. Everyone above who said he will eventually turn to humans is probably right. This guy should never be allowed around kids, animals or guns again. But you watch, he'll spend 8 months in prison, three months in a halfway house and he will be in the news again next year. "

" TDN Bad Boy: I know you're very much into politics, but are you saying to me if it was a Republican judge, he'll give him a very harsh sentence? If so, where are they? We need them here. "

" I am saying that you have a judical system that has been controlled by the Liberals in Western Washington for the past 25 years. If you want tougher sentencing the legislature has to pass it. They won't with the Liberals there. Country Gal, if you want tougher judges you have to elect them, and almost all of the judges in Southwest Washington from Olympia to Vancouver from Mt. St. Helens to the ocean ride with with the Liberal Democrat crowd. That's the way it is in Southwest Washington. You get what you vote for and in all of Southwest Washington that means Liberal Democrat justice. Do you like it? "
