All citizens are invited to a series of Community Assessment Task Force meetings about improving Longview's image.

The task force, a collaboration of the city of Longview and the Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce, is gathering citizens' opinions to determine which suggestions from Destination Development branding consultant's report the city should carry out. At the end of this year, the task force will present an action plan to the Longview City Council.

"The task force wants to hear from all parts of our community, not just the downtown," said Chamber President Rick Winsman. "It is important that every resident has the opportunity to let us know what improvements matter to them."

Here is the schedule:

• 7 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Solo Middle School

• 7 p.m. Sept. 16, Mint Valley Elementary School

• 9:30 a.m. Sept. 27, McClelland Arts Center

• 7 p.m. Sept. 30, Cascade Middle School

• 7 p.m. Oct. 7, St. Helens Elementary

• 9:30 a.m. Oct. 18, R.A. Long High School

• 7 p.m. Oct. 21, Mark Morris High School

So far, the task force has a list of 49 specific action items the community could undertake, based on Destination Development's report and citizens' suggestions, Winsman said. More people's opinions are needed to help prioritize the list.

The task force is comprised of 31 people representing Longview's business owners, schools, government, neighborhoods, tourist industry, arts, recreation and history.

" How about not having any meetings and continue to do nothing? That way we will not waste our time or get our hopes up over this. "

" Here is an opportunity to be part of the community and have your say. The city wants YOUR input. If enough people show an interest in bettering our community, perhaps something might really happen this time. Those of you who continue to complain and do nothing are part of the problem. Stand up, go to a meeting, and become a part of making a difference! "

" This community need the intelligent input of its citizens. Attend a meeting and add some insightful thoughts about what is not right in Longview. We do have a beautiful community and the possibility exists for it to be a showcase in Southwest Washington but it won't happen without input and work.
The downtown clean-up was a great effort but it barely scratched through the grime. Much more needs to be done. The local business people need to realize that first impressions is what will bring repeat customers and the way some of the downtown area looks it is very unappealing still.
It doesn't take a lot to keep the sidewalks in front of your business cleaned on a constant basis not once every few years. Do something creative with those planters...if you don't know what to plant, call a nursery and ask for advise. "

" In fact I do regularly attend council meetings and I am involved with a few civic organizations. I am dedicated to making this town a better place to live for all. Having been to so many of these community input meetings and seeing absolutely nothing done- I say save your time and breath. "

" Let's see....first impressions of Longview. City dump next to Tennant Way, that's appealing. Need to give mother nature a call and have her blow the mill fumes directly to the south towards Oreegone. Oh ya, put up a big sign on the Harry Morgan bridge that says "Meth Heads Not Allowed". "
