All citizens are invited to a series of Community Assessment Task Force meetings about improving Longview's image.
The task force, a collaboration of the city of Longview and the Kelso Longview Chamber of Commerce, is gathering citizens' opinions to determine which suggestions from Destination Development branding consultant's report the city should carry out. At the end of this year, the task force will present an action plan to the Longview City Council.
"The task force wants to hear from all parts of our community, not just the downtown," said Chamber President Rick Winsman. "It is important that every resident has the opportunity to let us know what improvements matter to them."
Here is the schedule:
• 7 p.m. Tuesday, Mount Solo Middle School
• 7 p.m. Sept. 16, Mint Valley Elementary School
• 9:30 a.m. Sept. 27, McClelland Arts Center
• 7 p.m. Sept. 30, Cascade Middle School
• 7 p.m. Oct. 7, St. Helens Elementary
• 9:30 a.m. Oct. 18, R.A. Long High School
• 7 p.m. Oct. 21, Mark Morris High School
So far, the task force has a list of 49 specific action items the community could undertake, based on Destination Development's report and citizens' suggestions, Winsman said. More people's opinions are needed to help prioritize the list.
The task force is comprised of 31 people representing Longview's business owners, schools, government, neighborhoods, tourist industry, arts, recreation and history.

The downtown clean-up was a great effort but it barely scratched through the grime. Much more needs to be done. The local business people need to realize that first impressions is what will bring repeat customers and the way some of the downtown area looks it is very unappealing still.
It doesn't take a lot to keep the sidewalks in front of your business cleaned on a constant basis not once every few years. Do something creative with those planters...if you don't know what to plant, call a nursery and ask for advise. "
