A Rainier man, who Columbia County authorities call a person of interest in the violent death of a Goble man two weeks ago, was in custody Friday on warrants charging him with violating probation and an unspecified misdemeanor.
Joshua Wayne Cubbage, 24, was arrested late Thursday by St. Helens police and the U.S. Marshals Oregon Fugitive Task Force. He was booked into the Columbia County Jail in lieu of $5,000 bond.
He was not arrested in connection with the Aug. 25 death of 62-year-old Vernon Lloyd McCullough, who was found dead on his property in the 3200 block of Highland Road near Goble. Authorities said McCullough, a decorated Vietnam veteran and retired grocery worker, was the victim of “homicidal violence” and that they wanted to talk to Cubbage.
