Authorities have identified a Rainier man as a "person of interest" in the homicide of Vernon Lloyd McCullough, 62.
The Oregon State Police and the Columbia County Major Crimes Team are asking for the public’s help in finding Joshua Wayne Cubbage, 24, a neighbor of the victim. Both lived in the Goble area.
Cubbage is described as a white man, 6 feet tall, 150 pounds, with short brown hair and blue eyes, and has tattoos on both arms and his back. The OSP said he is believed to be armed and should be considered dangerous.
Cubbage was last seen in the Rainier area on Tuesday and may be hitchhiking, possibly out of state, the OSP said.
He is wanted on a felony warrant for probation violation unrelated to the Aug. 25 death of McCullough, the OSP said.
McCullough’s body was found Aug. 25 during the early evening hours on his property in the 32000 block of Highland Road between Rainier and Deer Island. An autopsy showed that McCullough, a decorated Vietnam veteran and retired grocery worker, died from homicidal violence.
Anyone with information regarding Cubbage’s location is asked to call Oregon State Police Northern Command Center dispatch at 800-452-7888 or 911.
