E-mail this articleThe Mount St. Helens Hiking Club, www.mtsthelensclub.org, is planning the following hikes. All hikers are asked to call the leader before the hike. Rated E for easy, M for moderate, S for strenuous:
Sept. 6: Ed’s Trail (S): Loop on Silver Star Mountain including Starway Trail. Meet 8 a.m. behind Longview Library, hike 6 miles with 1,200 foot elevation gain. Ken, 423-2466, and Agnes, 636-5745.
Sept. 8: Castle Rock bike/hike. Cycle from Kelso to Castle Rock and back, or drive to CR and hike the dike trails there. For biking, Bob and Joan, 636-2547; for hike, RoseMary, 673-3018.
Sept. 13: Vanson Peak (S). Hike 12 miles to Vanson Peak north of Mount St. Helens, 2,450 foot elevation gain. Meet 7 a.m. Kelso McDonalds. Jerry, 577-8992 or Bruce, 425-0256.
Sept. 20: Indian Racetrack (M). Hike 6 miles with 500 feet elevation gain in Indian Heaven Wilderness. Meet 8 a.m. Longview library. Bruce, 425-0256; Betty, 578-1721.
