The town of Cathlamet is asking residents to conserve water between midnight Saturday and Sunday morning while the Wahkiakum PUD cuts power to the area’s water plant for routine maintenance.
Officials want to preserve as much water as possible for fighting fires and “other essential uses,” Cathlamet Mayor Dick Swart said in a statement.
Water customers who live in or near Cathlamet are being asked to postpone irrigation, watering their lawns and gardens and washing their cars. Swart said water may be used for drinking, cooking, bathing and watering livestock.
Power is expected to be cut to the water plant at midnight Saturday and restored at 7 a.m. Sunday. Water flowing through the system while the power is out will still be safe to drink, Swart said.
