Vader Hot August Nights
Vader residents have two opportunities to party this weekend — both at McMurphy Park.
Saturday, the park will host the Hot August Nights fundraiser held to launch a Shop-with-a-Cop program for Vader children. The national program provides money for poor children to pick out Christmas gifts and has them shop for them with a police officer. The idea is to foster a good relationship with police while helping the children have a brighter holiday.
The idea came from Police Chief Sean Uhlich. The fundraiser is being organized by Theresa Rehak. Events include a beer garden, music, games, food and prizes. Camping also is available for a $5 donation. Admission is free and from the 6 to 8 p.m. “Happy Hours” beer is $1.50.
The event runs from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Sunday, the focus shifts to cars as the County Cruisers car club holds a Cruise-In and Poker Run at the park.
The Cruise-In and Poker Run both start at noon at the park. At 2 p.m. there’s a free barbecue and at 3 p.m. there’s music by the Brian Green Band.
A Chevy 350 engine will be raffled off at 4 p.m. Tickets are $1.
All proceeds from the event go to upkeep and development of the park.
McMurphy Park is located east of downtown Vader. To get there take Interstate 5 exit 59 and drive west into Vader. Then take the immediate right just past the railroad tracks (the street does not have a sign) and travel about a mile. The park is on the left.
