A Naselle woman was killed Wednesday morning and two more women injured in a two-car collision on State Route 401 just south of Naselle.
Shirley M. Grabenhorst, 84, was pronounced dead at the scene after the driver of the car she was in pulled out in front of a pick-up, according to the Washington State Patrol.
According to the WSP, Bernice R. Tienhaara, 85, of Naselle, was stopped on Parpala Road at 11:55 a.m. when she attempted to cross SR 401 in front of a pick-up driven by Walter La Chapelle, 68, of Nehalem, Ore.
The cause of the Pacific County crash was Tienhaara failing to yield, according to the WSP. Charges are still being determined. Alcohol was not a factor and all involved wore their seat belts, according to the WSP.
Tienhaara suffered head injuries and was transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria, where she was in the critical care unit Wednesday night. Her 1983 Buick Regal was impounded.
Tienhaara’s other passenger, 88-year-old Mildred Ziak of Naselle, also suffered head injuries and was taken to Columbia Memorial Hospital, according to the WSP. The hospital didn’t have a patient by her name listed Wednesday night.
La Chapelle was not injured. His 2002 Dodge truck also was impounded.
