Toledo’s police chief has been fired and an officer put in charge, according to city officials.

Mayor Gerry Pratt fired Chief Gerard Thurlow Aug. 15, said City Manager Michelle Whitten. She declined to give any other information or details — including why Thurlow was fired — but did say there is no on-going investigation into the matter. “It’s not really much of a story,” she said.

For now, officer John Brockmueller has been placed in charge of the police department until city officials decide how to fill the position, Whitten said.

Thurlow was a longtime deputy in the department before being hired as police chief three years ago.

Neither Thurlow nor Pratt could be reached for comment Monday.

" bucketball...It may be something as simple as politics. One person doesn't like the other person's philosphy. Happens all the time in government. People like you are why the journalists drum up sensationalistic stories...entertainment value and REVENUE. "
