LONG BEACH — Six people were injured Sunday afternoon near Long Beach when a driver lost control while trying to do “doughnuts” on the sand, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Charges are pending against the driver, Jeramy S. Pithoud, 20, of Ridgefield, Wash., in connection with vehicular assault (a felony) and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a state patrol news release.
According to the state patrol, Pithoud was driving a 1992 Ford Explorer southbound on the beach about a mile north of the Bolstad Beach approach shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday. As he tried to do a “doughnut” maneuver, the vehicle fishtailed, then rolled, the state patrol said. The Explorer was destroyed. Troopers were unable to determine if any occupants were wearing seat belts.
Pithoud was transported to Ocean Beach Hospital in Ilwaco for treatment of internal injuries and a cut to his arm. A passenger, Latanya V. Mata, 17, of Ridgefield was transported to the same hospital for treatment of a broken collarbone.
The other passengers, Benjamen D. Wray, 18, of Vancouver; Nicholas R. Small, 19, of Vancouver; Justin L. Pithoud, 18, of Ridgefield; and Tyler C. Heim 18, of Ridgefield, received minor injuries but refused aid, the state patrol said.
All passengers were cited with being minors in possession of alcohol.
