I am asking you to consider casting your vote for Michael Delavar for Congress. I have worked closely with Delavar. I have learned to trust his judgment, appreciate his calm manners and agree with his positions on issues that are important to all of us.

Please join me in voting for Michael Delavar.

Falling victim to the big lie
• Adolph Hitler wrote in “Mein Kampf,” “The great mass of people will more easily fall victim to a big lie than to small ones.”
• We’ve proved Hitler right. If Iraq was really about Saddam Hussein and WMD, we’d have left Iraq when we caught Saddam and found no weapons. We didn’t, and we’re a nation of sheep living Bush’s immoral Big Lie.
• History shows nations that over-glorify their military and war have all fallen. We must take heed, we’re on that path.
• With three Supreme Court vacancies, this election will decide our long-term future.
• Barack Obama may be our last best hope for America and world peace.
• Many media owners are fronts for the GOP. Their paid propagandists, as FOX News, are even shamefully exploiting racism to destroy Obama.
• Be informed; watch “Democracy Now!” on KLTV at 5 a.m. and listen to Air America on KPOJ 620 AM.
• We need fresh air in the 18th District; vote Johnathan Font over Ed Orcutt, Vanessa Duplessie over Jaime Herrera and Jon Haugen over Joe Zarelli.
• If you care about protecting Willow Grove from greedy developers, vote for Todd McDaniel. He’s the only candidate trying to save it.

Terror won’t work
This is in response to Art Mottet Jr. and his letter titled “Choice is change or die.” Let us first start with his “simply start bombing them and not stop until our demands are met.” This is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard. First of all, it doesn’t work. Just ask the PLO or the IRA or the Nazis. We have been down this road ourselves. Does “Operation Rolling Thunder” ring any bells? It always fails because you can’t change people through fear. You just make them angry and unite them against you. Learn from the enemy’s mistake. Terrorism doesn’t work.
I agree with him when he says “America and her allies are the last best hope for this planet.” However, we cannot do that if we embrace the tactics of our enemies. Being born biologically human does give you rights. They’re called “human rights” and they are what America is all about. Terrorizing people into submission is never justified. Torture is never right, no mater what the reason. You can’t say “well, they started it.” We are adults and we need to start acting like it. That is the only thing that gives us the high moral ground. We do the right thing.

‘Mamma Mia’ a joy
I totally agree with Cathy Zimmerman’s review of the movie “Mamma Mia” currently showing at the Three Rivers Cinema. My husband and I went last Sunday afternoon and came out of the theater commenting on how much fun that was and how much we enjoyed it.
True, it is a film that women would enjoy, but I think my husband enjoyed it more than I did. I have been a fan of ABBA for years, so it didn’t take much for me to love the music and find it hard to sit still and not tap my feet. I agree, it was “a bit cheesy,” but just plain fun, fun, fun.

Restrooms inadequate
I’m sure enjoying the free concerts at the beautiful lake. However, the rest rooms are a whole different animal. Not only do they not contain soap, towels and seat protectors, they only have cold water.
I find it ironic that a family practice is sponsoring this event and that the city does not even provide adequate restrooms. It is a haven for disease to spread with that many people as well as children. If I recall, there are supposed to be portable toilets for every so many people at the event. Those at least are maintained and have hand sanitizer. The water in the others is freezing cold and I doubt that washes away any germs. Hepatitis anyone?
This is appalling. I will no longer attend this event because of the threat of getting very ill.

Great job at the lake
I would like to thank the Longview Parks Department on the great job on the sprinkler system recently installed along Nichols Boulevard. The park is really the Jewel of Longview.
Looking forward to when it will be completed all the way around lake. I have never seen the grass so green this late in the summer.

Church disturbs peace
This letter is to inform The Daily News readers that many people’s wishes for public peace and quiet were blatantly ignored by the city of Kelso. St. Mary’s Catholic Church played a concert outside of the church in a residential area on Aug. 2, beginning at 11 a.m. and going on well into the late evening. I live in apartments next to the church that are normally very quiet. I also know that many of the people who live here are shift workers, meaning that many of them work at night, including my husband.
The church was asked many times to have the band turn it down a bit; however, the church chose to ignore those requests. The entire apartment complex was shaking from the noise. So I, like many of my other neighbors, called the police department and was told that they were allowed to hold the concert. I replied, “Is it not disturbance of the peace?” The question went unanswered.
But I believe this is very clearly against Kelso’s own municipal code, 9.08.010 Unlawful acts designated: “7. Engaging in, promoting, encouraging, aiding or abetting any fight, riot or noisy and disorderly proceeding on any street or public place, or in any private building or dwelling when persons residing in the vicinity are disturbed.” So how can it be that nothing could be done?
