The Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office is notifying the public of a registered sex offender who has recently been designated as a Level III (considered highly likely to reoffend).
Mark Regies Meyer Newton, 46, is white, 5-foot-6, 240 pounds, with gray hair and green eyes. He is registered in the 300 block of 25th Avenue, Longview.
On Wednesday, the Sex Offender Assessment Committee changed Newton’s status to Level III. Newton is in compliance with his registration requirement and is not wanted by law enforcement at this time.
According to official documents, on Nov. 16, 2006, in Cowlitz County Superior Court, Newton pleaded guilty to one count of possession of depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Newton had pornographic images of nude prepubescent, preteen and teenage females in various poses.
Newton has a 1986 conviction for third-degree statutory rape and a 1985 conviction for communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
Newton currently has pending charges for first-degree and second-degree child molestation.
