“Helping Our Neighbors” is the theme for this summer’s food drive to resupply the nearly bare shelves of Help Warehouse.
A community get-together will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the new Fibre Federal Credit Union building on Commerce Avenue. People are encouraged to drop off nonperishable food items and enjoy a free hot dog and beverage.
“We just want people to be aware of the community’s needs,” organizer Bill Ammons said Wednesday.
Chinook Sales has donated a John Deere lawn mower, which will be raffled off, Ammons said. Raffle tickets are free.
Food donations also can be dropped off at Ammons’ barber shop on South Pacific Avenue in Kelso. Cash and check donations should be taken to the Grocery Outlet on Ocean beach Highway.
In addition to nonperishable food items, diapers, toilet paper and toiletry items, such as shampoo, bar soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste are welcome.
