The Cowlitz County Fair went to the dogs Thursday. On day two of the four-day event, the fair held its first Dogapalooza, featuring entertainment, clothing, gourmet food and toys for canines. And a chance to share what’s on their minds.

Portland’s Faye Pietrokowsky, a “pet psychic” who purports to communicate telepathically with animals, told pet owners what their beasties were thinking and saying.

Sherrill Aubol of Longview brought her four-year-old dachshund Chucky to Dogapalooza and sat down with Pietrokowsky.

“I asked her what Chucky thought of us as parents,” Aubol said.

The answer?

“He loves us,” Aubol says, beaming. “It made my day.”

She called Dogapalooza a “wonderful event.”

Julie Flood of Castle Rock brought her dog Snowball to event, saying, “I thought it would be really fun, a great social event.”

Flood found Pietrokowsky “very interesting.”

Pietrokowsky said she has done pet psychic readings for 20 years, but has made it her career for the past five. She said she’s not a “mind reader,” though she admits having a knack for understanding what is said without words.

“It is intuition, the skill of knowing things that aren’t in front of us,” she says. She continues, “Animals understand more than you think,” and she encourages people to talk to pets and tell them what is being done.

Elsewhere at the fair, Dogapalooza events included treadmill training, fashion shows, weight pulling, lure races and massages. Donations to Dogapalooza benefited the Cowlitz County Humane Society.

The fair continues Friday and concludes Saturday. Admission is free.

" The fair can be fun until all the people start to park in front of your house! There is parking Intended for fair goers. Some residents need to park in front of their house... Park in the lot intended for parking...... "

" Thank god this dogapalooza stuff is about over. I'm sick and tired of hearing the commercial for it on the radio. It's driving me nuts! "

" I'm in love with Chucky. He is the cutest little guy I have seen in a long long time.

Congratulations to his lucky parents, and thanks for sharing your joy in the paper. "

" Pet psychic...? Hopefully this is meant to be fun....cause it's definitely comical! "

" This was a nice article about a fun, family-oriented event at the C/C fair, and most of the comments here are whiney and negative. What's wrong with people now-a-days? The fair comes once a year. Deal with it! "

" Chucky's parents were DOGS. Come on really, putting clothes on dogs? I never seen anything so lame. "

" The fair is once a year just as the bike run is . Park in your driveway and leave the streets for the paying participants! Some people enjoy some fun and others only whine. "

Doug McCratch wrote on Aug 1, 2008 1:35 PM:

" Rubicon, you're just jealous because Chucky looks better in a cowboy hat than you do... "

Ms. Z wrote on Aug 1, 2008 5:19 PM:

" Thought, I live near the fairgrounds. I do not have a driveway to park in, my daughter had to park three blocks away after work because people not only took up every spare inch of space in front of the house, they were also kind enough to throw all their trash in our front yard. Oh yeah and then there is the drunk couple screaming profanity at their children while arguing over who was the most capable of driving. Not whining, valid complaints. "

" Ms.Z I'm sorry for my ignorance. Sometimes I should enter thoughtless instead. Thanx for correcting me on ALL the disruptions people living in the area have to contend with. "

" Rubicon, I talked with Chucky's people at the fair & they said Chucky loves to wear his hat! Lighten up kiddo, most dogs really dig getting dressed up and struttin' their stuff. They love the attention....much like you do when you look hot and know it! "

lola*in*longview wrote on Aug 1, 2008 10:20 PM:

" Ms.Z did you alert the authorities of the drunks driving with there children inthe car or just let it go. I hope you called, too many people just don't get involved and people lose there lives, when one phone call could have prevented it. As for the interuptions the fair gives I can relate ball games always block my way, but what can you do. Next year get some saw horses and blcok the spot for you and your people to park. "
