The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife has scheduled three open houses in Southwest Washington as part of developing hunting seasons and related regulations for 2009-11.
“We want to hear what people think about proposals currently under consideration, as well as other ideas they may have to offer,” Sandra Jonker, regional WDFW wildlife manager, said in a news release.
People can chat with biologists and pick up informational materials.
The events will be at:
• White Salmon: Aug. 7 from 4-7 p.m. at the White Salmon Valley Community Library, No. 5 Town & Country Square.
• Toledo: Aug. 14 from 4-7 p.m. at the Toledo High School, 1242 State Route 505.
• Vancouver: Aug. 28 from 7-9 p.m. at the Water Resources Education Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way.
Jonker said that the events in White Salmon and Toledo will focus primarily on local issues, such as the growing elk population around Longview and low deer populations in Game Management Units 388 and 578 in Klickitat County.
At the event in Vancouver, WDFW will draw on staff from around the state to discuss hunting proposals with statewide significance, including one that would potentially increase hunting opportunities for muzzleloaders.
Similar events are planned throughout the state before the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission considers adoption of 2009-11 hunting seasons next spring.
Information about that process and opportunities for public information is available on the WDFW Web site at http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/seasonsetting/
