Reports of sport angler checks from the past week and related information provided by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Columbia River sturgeon
From Bonneville Dam downstream to the Wauna powerlines, open to sturgeon retention Thursdays through Sundays through Dec. 31. Below Wauna, sturgeon retention closed after July 26.
Columbia River salmonids: Last week, 557 anglers checked had 173 steelhead and 8 adult summer chinook. 57 percent of the steelhead caught were kept. On Saturday, 217 boats and 448 Washington and 168 Oregon bank anglers were counted.
Columbia River pikeminnow: At Cathlamet last week, 86 anglers turned in 327 pikeminnow. At Willow Grove, 92 anglers with 371 fish. At Rainier, 51 anglers with 199 fish. At Kalama, 50 anglers turned in 179 delightful pikeminnow.
Columbia River gillnet seasons: 12-hour seasons downstream of Bonneville will start at 7 p.m. Aug. 3, Aug. 5, Aug. 7, Aug. 10 and Aug. 12.
Cowlitz River: 11 bank anglers had 3 steelhead and 78 boat anglers had 63 steelhead.

Grays and Elochoman Rivers: July 31 is the last day to fish for hatchery spring chinook on both rivers and hatchery steelhead on the Grays, including the West Fork. Both are scheduled to open for fall salmon on Sept. 1.
Drano Lake: Effort and catch are increasing. May limits of steelhead were taken Saturday.
Battle Ground Lake: Planted with 2,600 rainbows weighing 3/4 pound each on July 15.
