Mariners reportedly moving to KIRO Radio

E-mail this articleSEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners reportedly are returning to KIRO AM radio next year.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports that the AL club is set to sign a three-year agreement Tuesday with Bonneville International, owner of KIRO. Under the deal, the newspaper reports the Mariners will get $5.5 million a season.
That compares with the $10 million a season the club has received in the past six years from KOMO Radio, one of the most lucrative in baseball when it was signed. The Mariners were previously heard on KIRO.
Hall of Fame lead broadcaster Dave Niehaus and game announcers who are employed by the Mariners are expected to make the switch. Pre- and post-game broadcasters who work for KOMO would have to apply to KIRO to keep those jobs.
