SEATTLE — The Seattle Mariners are declaring two sections of Safeco Field no-peanut zones for a couple of games this summer.

The AL club announced the move Wednesday to make the ballpark safer for children and grown-up fans with peanut allergies.

Special cleaning is planned in sections 311 and 312 down the right field line before the games, one on Aug. 5 against the Minnesota Twins and the other Sept. 9 against the Texas Rangers. Then signs will be posted to alert fans to the ban on peanut products in those sections.

Peanuts also will be banished from nearby concession stands.

A few other major and minor league teams have offered special seating to lower the risk for those who are allergic to peanuts. In May the entire minor league ballpark in Clinton, Iowa, went peanut-free.

" I can finally rest easy at night! Between this and the monkey(Bush) agreeing to pass a bill to let(force) me pay for others' mortgages, life is grand. God Bless America! I'm sure it will all work out after the election here in the good ol' SSA. "

" I'm allergic to the sun, you think they could close that roof for me? I know a vegetarian who is repulsed by the sight of meat, will they ban meat? I also know an alcoholic, will they ban selling beer too? WHATEVER. "

" To Mrs. Pellwerds, perhaps you are not familiar with the possible consequences of peanut allergies. This is an allergy that could very well be fatal, and those who have it do all they can to avoid any area where peanuts might be present. My niece suffers from a very severe case of this, ended up in ICU when a co-worker opened a Snickers bar in the next cubicle at her office. She avoids ball parks, Chinese/Thai restaurants, and calls ahead to ANY restaurant to ensure that they don't use peanut oil on the premises. Many airlines have discontinued serving peanuts, opting for smoked almonds instead (IMO better tasting anyway) so this is no small matter. I commend those who are doing this. "

" Smoking was banned because second hand smoke kills. Why not have a no peanut area for those that could die from coming into contact with them? Way to go Mariners! Shows they care about their fans. "

" Nice one Nipsey. :o)

And Mrs. Pellwerds, Huggygramma is right. Peanut allergies can be fatal to those who have them. "
