Adopt from a shelter

Adopt from a shelter
Sen. Barack Obama and his family have said that, win or lose, they’re going to add a dog to their family after the election this November.
That’s a great idea. But I hope they decide to adopt one from their local shelter or rescue group. Why? Because as long as people still buy their pets from pet stores and commercial breeders, millions of abandoned pets are killed in shelters across the country every year.
So here’s one issue that’s truly bipartisan — one that we can all agree on. Let’s ask our national leaders always to adopt their pets from shelters, rather than buying them from pet stores. We need people to be aware that there are wonderful animals of all breeds (and, yes, pure breeds too) available and in need of loving homes at local shelters and rescue groups. In our town, you can find them through organizations like Rescued Paws and the Humane Society of Cowlitz County.
Members of Best Friends Animal Society have started a petition to invite the Obama family to do just that. Whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican, left-wing, right-wing or any other wing, you can make a bipartisan difference by signing the petition at ObamaFamilyDog.com and encouraging all your friends and family to sign it, too.
Thanks for thinking about the nation’s homeless pets.

Immutable laws
In response to Kent Disney’s July 18 letter, God’s laws have not changed. An example is His Word in Isaiah 65:3-5; Leviticus 11:44-47 — clean or unclean flesh; 1 Timothy 4:3-5 — Christ’s grace permits eating of flesh; Matthew 5:17-20 — Jesus did not change the law. The analogy is Grace permits eating flesh, but unclean flesh causes illness. If we eat appropriately we have no sickness from poor dietary choices.
So are the laws governing all of this planet’s life. The forests are for our use and happiness. When ignored the underlying brush and some tree species die. In winter they rot and in summer they dry. A strong wind or electrical storm causes them to fire up. Again we violate God’s law by choice.
Abortion is an effective medical tool. It is against God’s law but permitted by the grace of Christ for meaningful medical purposes. Choosing to violate this law results in the murder of life. Grace is now removed by individual choice and judgment is again the rule, 1 John 3:15.

Live or die
I am writing in regards to the article about a “quiet zone” or whatever for the train thing. I think that would be the stupidest thing that this county/state could do right now.
I had a friend who got hit by a train and died, and I have known people who know people who were hit by trains. We need the train horns. I would rather have my ears hurt or stay up at night because of the trains than know that someone died because I couldn’t sleep. That is not even an OK matter to discuss.
How would you feel if this went through and one of your children, grandchildren, spouse, sister, brother or a really good friend got hit by a train because they couldn’t see the train but could have heard the whistle if it would have gone off? Come on, who cares if you lose 20 minutes of sleep? I would rather have a human being live than me not get enough sleep at night. Come on, people.
