With two more arrests this week, the Lewis County Sheriff’s office believes it has broken a ring responsible for a string of 65 electrical wire thefts in the county this year.

The county’s Wire Theft Task Wednesday arrested Daniel M. McEwen, 35, at his residence in Selah. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail for numerous counts of second-degree theft 2nd, first-degree malicious mischief and first-degree trafficking in stolen property.

Brian K. Bradley, 45, of Winlock was arrested Thursday at 1349 hours at a residence in the 100 block of Frost Road in Winlock. He was booked for numerous counts second-degree theft 2nd, first-degree malicious mischief, first-degree possession of stolen property and first-degree trafficking in stolen property.

According to a sheriff’s office press release, detectives believe McEwen and Bradley were operating in connection with Myndee Kelly, Clayton Fraley, and Charles Tanner, who were arrested last week.

Detectives have solved and cleared almost all of the wire thefts with the arrests of the five suspects, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

“The task force did an outstanding job of following the few leads we came across in grinding this case out, leading to the arrests all of the major suspects involved in this wire theft ring,” Sheriff Steve Mansfield said in the press release.

“Since the original arrests on the 9th, there have been no reports of any further Lewis County PUD wire theft. The task force will continue to aggressively monitor the metal theft situation. In an effort to combat this problem from both the supply and demand side of the issue, we also are currently working with all metal recyclers in Lewis County to ensure education and compliance with the new laws.”

" Mabey Cowlitz County should hire them since our local law inforcment seems incapable of doing much about the "scrapper". "

" The person who can really be of help stopping these theifs isn't doing a freakin thin because they are in it for the money also. The person accepting the scrap should be more diligent in reporting to the police. These people should also be imprisoned for there part of this ilegal activity. Without a buyer there would be no need for stealing the metal. "
